Remove/install airbag unit on steering wheel - AR91.60-P-0660LF

DANGER Risk of injury  during testing and repair operations related to pyrotechnical components Do not expose pyrotechnical components to temperatures above 100 °C or 212 .
Disconnect current supply when working on such components.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Adjust steering wheel (6) to the topmost position    
2 Disconnect ground line to battery   AR54.10-P-0003LF
3 Insert screwdriver (1) in right and left opening (arrow) at steering wheel (6) and press respective end of spring (2) inwards until driver airbag (4) is released IMPORTANT Model 217
Model 222 as of 5/31/14
Angle:
a = approx. 10°
IMPORTANT Model 222 up to 5/30/14
Angle:
b = approx. 45°
IMPORTANT Use commercially available Allen wrench with a size of 4 mm.
IMPORTANT Right and left opening (arrow) at steering wheel (6) must be pierced the first time that driver airbag (4) is removed.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ends of spring (2) must audibly engage in mounts (5) of driver airbag (4).
 
4 Remove driver airbag (4) and disconnect electrical connector (3) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Make sure that electrical connector (3) engages properly.  
5 Dispose of removed driver airbag (4) properly When replacing the driver airbag (4).  
6 Install in the reverse order    
7 Check supplemental restraint system (SRS) with diagnostic unit When replacing the driver airbag (4).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04B
