Comparison of engines 272, 273 with engines 112, 113 (except AMG)

REFER TO GENERAL INFORMATION

Engines 272, 273 Engines 112, 113 (except AMG)
Fuel injection and ignition system ME 9.7 Gasoline injection and ignition system ME 2.0 or ME 2.8
Two intake valves and two exhaust valves per cylinder. Valve stem diameter of intake valves reduced by 6 mm to minimize interference effect on the fresh gas flow. Two intake valves and one exhaust valve per cylinder. Valve stem diameter of intake valves 7 mm.
One intake camshaft and one exhaust camshaft per cylinder bank. Continuous camshaft adjustment on all four camshafts up to a 40° crankshaft angle. No camshaft adjustment
One spark plug located centrally in the combustion chamber with ignition coil plugged straight in. Ignition output stages assigned in ignition coils. Capacitive tap at side of each ignition coil. Diagnosis via primary current. Dual ignition with two spark plugs and ignition coils located at cylinder head. Ignition outputs stages located in ME control unit. Diagnosis via primary voltage.
Load detection using hot film MAF sensor with integrated intake air temperature sensor. Optimized air flow via intake air guide and modified grid. The housing is oval. Transmission of values to the ME control unit via frequency signals. Load detection using hot film MAF sensor with integrated intake air temperature sensor. Transmission of values via voltage signals.
One catalytic converter per row of cylinders. A total of four O 2 sensors, each upstream of and lateral to each catalytic convertor. O 2 sensor upstream of the TWC designed as a straight-line measuring sensor. One catalytic converter per row of cylinders. Total of four O 2 sensors, upstream and downstream of each catalytic convertor. O 2 sensor upstream TWC with voltage step at λ=1.
Engine speed and crankshaft position are detected by the crankshaft Hall sensor. Engine speed and crankshaft position are detected inductively by the crankshaft position sensor.
Alternator interface -
Map-controlled three-disk thermostat for heat management. Coolant/engine oil heat exchanger at front of engine. Thermostat position dependent exclusively on coolant temperature.
Coolant temperature sensor located at the rear of the right cylinder bank. Fast sensor with minimum response time. Coolant temperature sensor located at front of engine.
Air filter with two filter inserts and integral resonators. Air ducts in nylon fabric for noise optimization. One air filter. Resonator located at air duct.
At low loads the camshafts are adjusted in such a way that the exhaust gas recirculation in the engine takes place through valve overlap. External exhaust gas recirculation via ARF pressure transducer.
Oil level check switch Oil sensor for oil level, temperature and quality
EVAP line with fluid reservoir at regeneration switchover valve for suppression of pulse noise. -
Power steering pump with quantity control valve, to reduce operating energy input for the power steering pump under certain operating conditions (e.g. straight ahead position) (models 171, 211, 219). -
Manifold switchover for the length of intake routes and tumble flap switchover in partial load operation to influence flow. Position sensors to detect tumble flap position. Manifold switchover for length of intake routes
