Fuel, ME-SFI [ME] injection and ignition system 2.7.1 (up to about 28.02.06)
Fuel, ME-SFI [ME] injection and ignition system 2.7.2 (up to about 01.03.06)
Displacement 5513 cm3
Rated output up to 380 kW (520 HP) and an 800 Nm rated torque
Displacement increased to 5980 cm3 (stroke +6 mm, hole +0.6 mm) Rated output 450 kilowatt (612 HP), rated torque 1000 Nm (Forged piston, connecting rod, crankshaft and connecting rod bearing made out of optimized materials - lubricating system adapted, oil cooler to vehicle front and in the front wheel well)
One turbocharger (Biturbo) per cylinder bank in cast steel. In each cylinder bank a larger turbocharger (Biturbo) made out of steel casting. (Geometry and heat resistance were adapted to the increased gas flow)
The maximum boost pressure is approx. 0.9 bar at sea level. The maximum boost pressure is approx. 1.5 bar at sea level.
Fuel filter with integrated overflow valve approx. 3.5 bar and with installed throttle (approx. 50 liters/hr). Model 216, 221: In the fuel tank a fuel filter with integral overflow valve, about 4.1 bar, without throttle.
Model 215, 220, 230: fuel tank with intank fuel pump (M3/1) (for model 230 up to about 28.02.06), fuel tank with fuel pressure regulating valve approx. 4.1 bar and throttle approx. 50 liters/hour.
Fuel pump (M3) with a maximum delivery rate of approx. 245 liters/hr. Fuel pump (M3) with a maximum delivery rate of approx. 330 liters/hr.
Model 215, 220, 230: the fuel pump control unit (N118) actuates the fuel pump by means of a PWM signal.
Model 216, 221: electronically regulated fuel supply: the fuel pump control unit is a CAN subscriber and can be diagnosed. Fuel pressure specification from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) to the fuel pump control unit.
Model 215, 220 and model 230 until around 28.02.06 (N118): the fuel pump control unit () actuates the fuel pump by means of a PWM signal and the intank fuel pump relay (K27/5, K40/8kX) by means of a ground signal.
Model 230 from about 01.03.06: intank fuel pump - removed. The fuel pump control unit actuates the fuel pump with a PWM signal.
Model 216, 221: electronically regulated fuel supply: the fuel pump control unit is a CAN subscriber and can be diagnosed. Fuel pressure specification from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) to the fuel pump control unit.
Low temperature cooler mounted behind the radiator engine cooling. Large low temperature cooler (with increased cooling power) mounted in front of the radiator engine cooling.
Exhaust system with mixing area for the exhaust gases from each cylinder bank and 2 exhaust tailpipes. Exhaust system without mixing area (separate exhaust duct) and 4 exhaust tailpipes.
