CGI vehicle features - AH07.70-P-0002-02VA
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 202 other vehicles, including the 2020 Mercedes-Benz SLC300, 2020 Mercedes-Benz SL550, 2020 Mercedes-Benz SL450, 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA250, and 2019 Mercedes-Benz SLC300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The engine can be driven by engine control in two operating modes:
- Homogenous mode
- Stratified charge operation.
The differences between the operating modes are listed in the table.
| |
Homogenous mode |
Stratified charge mode |
| Engine characteristics |
High torque and high output |
Minimal fuel consumption |
| Operating range |
- Idle
- Motor speed less than 3500 rpm: upper partial load, full load
- Motor speed greater than 3500 rpm: upper partial load, full load
- Requested temperature increase for catalytic converter or NO X
storage catalytic converter
|
- Partial load and motor speed less than 3500 rpm
- Engine temperature greater than -10°C
- Engine load less than 45%
- Temperature of NO X
storage catalytic converters 250 to 500°C
- NOX
storage catalytic converters regenerated (no NOX
stored)
- NOX
sensors ready to operate
- Altitude below about 1700 meters
- Sensor rotor adaptation occurs (e.g. after discontinuity of terminal 30 required again)
|
| Number of injections |
- Single
- Double for acceleration and for full load up to about 4500 rpm
|
- Double at low loads
- Double at high loads
|
| Air/fuel ratio λ |
- Lambda = 1
- Lambda smaller than 1 due to fuel excess (rich)
- Fuel air mixture cloud with homogeneous mixing
|
|
| Injection timing point |
In the induction period |
In the compression phase before and after the ignition timing |
| External exhaust gas recirculation (ARF) |
NOT APPROVED |
Regulated recycle rate of up to 30% |
| Emission control |
- Conversion from HC (hydrocarbons), CO (carbon monoxide) and NO X
(nitrogen oxides) in the 3-way catalytic converters
- Regeneration of NO X
storage catalytic converter for a lambda less than 1 (rich)
|
- Conversion of HC (hydrocarbons) and CO (carbon monoxide) in the 3-way catalytic converters
- Storage of nitrogen oxides (NO X
) in the NOX
storage catalytic converters

| Reaction to faults |
Engine diagnosis indicator lamp is actuated for exhaust-relevant faults. |
- In case of error stratified charge operation is locked out and homogeneous operation activated.
- Engine diagnosis indicator lamp is no longer actuated since the limits EURO4 in homogeneous operation is achieved.
- Fuel saving discontinued.
