Location
The tuner unit is located in the trunk at the left behind the wheel arch on a bracket.
Tasks
- Receive signals
- Processing signals
- Transmitting signals
Receive signals
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Direct lines
Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
The tuner unit is a MOST subscriber and it communicates through it with the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) and the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code 810 (Sound system) or with code 811 (Advanced sound system)).
Direct lines
- Power supply via circuit 31 and circuit 30g
- Wake-up line for MOST
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11) (model 222), for Satellite Digital
- Audio Radio Service (SDARS) signals (with code 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio))
- SDARS antenna (A2/82) (model 217), for SDARS signals (with code 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio))
- FM 2 and DAB antenna amplifier (A2/19), for DAB-Band-III signals (with CODE 537 (Digital radio (DAB)))
- TV 1 antenna amplifier (A94/1), for TV-1 signals (with CODE 865 (TV tuner))
- TV 2 and DAB band III antenna amplifier (A94/2), for DAB band III signals (with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB))) or TV-2 signals (with code 865 (TV tuner))
- TV 3 antenna amplifier (A94/3), for TV-3 signals (with CODE 865 (TV tuner))
Processing signals
- With coded 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio), the tuner unit decodes and amplifies the satellite signals (Time Division Multiplex (TDM)) and the terrestrial signals (Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (COFDM)) into Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) signals.
- With CODE 537 (Digital radio (DAB)), the tuner unit decodes the DAB band III signals into PCM signals.
- With CODE 865 (TV tuner), the tuner unit decodes and demodulates the TV signals and separates them into video and audio signals.
- With code 865 (TV tuner) and code 537 (Digital radio (DAB)), the tuner unit separates the DAB band III signals from the TV signals on the TV 2 antenna input.
Transmitting signals
- MOST
- Direct lines
MOST
The tuner unit is a MOST subscriber and communicates over it with the COMAND controller unit and the sound system amplifier control unit (with code 810 (Sound system) or code 811 (Advanced sound system)). The audio signals are transmitted to the COMAND controller unit or the sound system amplifier control unit (with code 810 (Sound system) or code 811 (Advanced sound system)).
Direct lines
- Supply voltage to the following antenna amplifiers:
- Supply voltage to FM 2 and DAB antenna amplifier (with CODE 537 (Digital radio (DAB)))
- Supply voltage to TV 1 antenna amplifier (with CODE 865 (TV tuner))
- Supply voltage to TV 2 and DAB band III antenna amplifier (with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB)) or with code 865 (TV tuner))
- Supply voltage to TV 3 antenna amplifier (with code 865 (TV tuner))
- Video signals over a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the COMAND controller unit (with code (865) TV tuner)
- Video signals over a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the Rear Seat Entertainment System controller unit (A26/18) (with code 865 (TV tuner) and with code 864 (Rear Seat Entertainment System))
Structure
With CODE 498 (Japan version) the tuner unit is delivered with a "B-CAS card". The "B-CAS card" is designed as a subscriber identification module (SIM) card and inserted in the SIM card reader. The SIM card reader is covered up with a seal.
Variants
The tuner unit is available in the following variants:
- With code 865 (TV tuner) and with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB))
- With CODE 865 (TV tuner)
- With CODE 537 (Digital radio (DAB))
- With CODE 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio)
