Function requirements, general 

• "Engine running" or "Drivetrain operational" signal set for t > 3 s

The "Engine running" or "Drive train operational" signal is sent by the CDI control unit (N3/9) (with diesel engine) or the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (with gasoline engine) over the drive train CAN (CAN C1), powertrain control unit (N127), chassis FlexRay (Flex E), electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) and interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit (N10/6).

Spray nozzle hose heater, general 

The spray nozzle hose heater prevents the washer fluid in the spray nozzle hose from freezing.

To do so, the following components are actuated:

• Bottom spray nozzle hose heater (R2/4), directly by front SAM control unit
• Top spray nozzle hose heater (R2/5), via left fuse and relay module (K40/6) and windshield washer system junction box (R2/6)

Function sequence for spray nozzle hose heater 

The front SAM control unit switches on the spray nozzle hose heater at an outside temperature of T < 3°C.

The outside temperature is detected by the outside temperature sensor (B14). The front SAM control unit reads in the signals of the outside temperature sensor and uses them to calculate the outside temperature.

If the outside temperature rises to T > 5°C, the spray nozzle hose heater is switched off.

If the windshield washer system pump (M5/1) or the Night & Day View Assist long-range camera washer fluid pump (M5/2) (with code 610 (Night View Assist)) is actuated, the spray nozzle hose heater actuation is interrupted. If the windshield washer system pump or the Night & Day View Assist long-range camera washer fluid pump is no longer actuated, the spray nozzle hose heater is actuated again after t = 5 s.

The energy management can switch off the spray nozzle hose heater. Detailed information is available in a separate document.
