The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.

- Expose MIG solder seam on windshield crossmember (2) and cut (area A).
- Expose spot welds on windshield crossmember (2) and cut out (areas B).

- Mark separating point on windshield crossmember (2) and cut (areas C).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Mark separating point directly behind spot welds (areas D) and cut.
- Expose spot welds on windshield crossmember (2) and cut out (areas D).
- Expose self-piercing riveting on windshield crossmember (2) and drill with Ø 6 mm bit (areas E and E1
).
The self-piercing riveting can also be separated with a riveter for self-piercing and flow-form rivets (area F).

- Heat windshield crossmember (2) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded.
- Remove windshield crossmember (2).

- Mark separating points on firewall crossmember (3) and cut (areas F).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
f1 = approx. 70 mm
f2 = approx. 170 mm
- Expose MIG solder seams on firewall crossmember (3) and cut (areas G).
- Expose spot welds on firewall crossmember (3) and cut out (areas H and I).
Cut out spot welds through two panel thicknesses (areas I).
- Heat firewall crossmember (3) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded.
- Remove section from firewall crossmember (3).

- Mark separating point on firewall crossmember (3) and cut (area J).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
j = approx. 30 mm
- Expose spot welds on firewall crossmember (3) and cut out (areas L).

- Heat firewall crossmember (3) in crosshatched areas.
Heat firewall crossmember (3) from inside (area M).
Cross-hatched areas are bonded.
- Remove firewall crossmember (3).

- Mark separating points on firewall (1) and cut (areas N and O).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
If connections are to be offset in area N, observe overlapping of approx. 20 mm.
Dimensions:
n = approx. 50 mm
o = approx. 70 mm
- Expose spot welds on firewall (1) and cut out (area P).

- Expose spot welds on firewall (1) and on tunnel connection panel (4) and drill with Ø 6.5 mm bit (areas Q).
- Expose spot welds on firewall (1) and cut out (area R).

- Expose spot weld on firewall (1) and drill with Ø 6.5 mm bit (area S).
- Expose spot welds on firewall (1) and cut out (areas T and U).
Cut spot weld through two panel thicknesses (area U).
- Bend up sheet metal flange in direction of arrow.
It is necessary to bend up the sheet metal flange to remove firewall (1).

- Heat firewall (1) and tunnel connection panel (4) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded.
- Bend tunnel connection panel (4) to side in direction of arrow.
It is necessary to remove bend the tunnel connection panel (4) to side to remove the firewall (1).
- Heat firewall (1) in crosshatched area.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded.
- Remove firewall (1).

- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in the cross-hatched inner C-pillar sidewall.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (areas W).
