WARNING Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
DANGER Risk of fire  /risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking.
Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off all electrical consumers and take transmitter key out of reception range NOTES All electrical consumers must be switched off.
Otherwise, they may be damaged when the ground line (1) is disconnected/connected.
 
2 Open load compartment floor (1)    
3 Release nut (3) and disconnect ground line (2) from negative terminal on additional battery (G1/7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, charging cable to negative terminal/positive terminal for additional battery *BA54.10-P-1009-01J 
4 Using a diode test lamp, check the on-board electrical system for voltage between the positive line (10) of the additional battery (G1/7) and a suitable ground point NOTES Cover up the positive line (10).
Otherwise a short circuit may occur.
IMPORTANT Where applicable, the electrical system is to be repaired once the required work has been completed.
If the diode test lamp lights up, the on-board electrical system is still active because of a defect in the electrical system.

Detach ground line of on-board electrical system battery

5 Remove positive terminal cover (8)    
6 Release nut (9) and disconnect positive line (10) from positive terminal of additional battery (G1/7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, charging cable to negative terminal/positive terminal for additional battery *BA54.10-P-1009-01J 
7 Detach vent hose (6) from elbow fitting (7) NOTES Check that vent hose (6) is seated and routed correctly.
Battery acid vapors emitted will otherwise damage surrounding components.
 
8 Unscrew nut (13) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, bracket to battery carrier for additional battery *BA54.10-P-1008-01J 
9 Remove cramp (14)    
10 Remove bolts (15) and remove shackle (16) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, shackle to battery carrier for additional battery *BA54.10-P-1007-01J 
11 Remove additional battery (G1/7) from trunk    
12 Install in the reverse order
