Location
The Night View Assist control unit is located at the left behind the A-pillar trim.
Tasks
The Night View Assist control unit does the following:
- Receive signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Transmitting signals
- Actuation of components
Receive signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- User interface CAN (CAN HMI)
- Low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line
User interface CAN
The Night View Assist control unit reads in, amongst others, the following signals via user interface CAN:
- Vehicle speed
- Wheel speeds
- Selected gear range
- Data from rain/light sensor with additional functions (B38/2)
- Night View Assist button status (S6/1s5)
- Activation/deactivation of picture ("pop-up operation")
- Activation/deactivation of spotlight function
- Status of infrared light
- Light source detection status
- Status (operating mode) of Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)
LVDS line
The Night View Assist control unit reads in amongst others the following signals via LVDS line:
- Picture data for Night View Assist infrared camera 1 (B84/2)
- Picture data for Night View Assist infrared camera 2 (B84/11)
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Transmitting signals
The initial parameters are transmitted over the following connections:
- User interface CAN
- LVDS line
User interface CAN
The Night View Assist control unit sends amongst others the following signals and requests via user interface CAN:
- Status and system messages
- Requests to activate/deactivate the infrared lights
- Object information for spotlight function
LVDS line
The Night View Assist control unit sends amongst others the following signal via LVDS line:
- Picture data (digital video interface) to instrument cluster
Actuation of components
The Night View Assist control unit actuates the Night View Assist infrared camera 1 and Night View Assist infrared camera 2 directly (switch-on pulse and power supply).
