Outer A-Pillar Panel Installation - Ar63.20-P-1223-03ME

Model 167 

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are to be performed on model 167.1 on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed analogously on the right side.

The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Install, fit and fix in place A-pillar paneling (1).
  2. Drill rivet holes on A-pillar paneling (1) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas A, B).
  3. Drill rivet holes on A-pillar paneling (1) with Ø 6.7 mm (area C).

    In the event of a complete repair job.

  4. Countersink rivet holes (area B).
  5. Remove A-pillar paneling (1).
  6. Deburr rivet holes on A-pillar paneling (1) and body on both sides.
  7. Remove drilling chips.
  8. Coat with zinc dust paint insides of those riveted joints that will not be bonded.
  9. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  10. Install and fix in place A-pillar paneling (1).
  11. Rivet A-pillar paneling (1) with rivet Ø 6.5x12.5 (area D).
  12. Rivet A-pillar paneling (1) with countersunk-head blind rivet Ø 6.4x15.5 (area E).
  13. Rivet A-pillar paneling (1) with countersunk-head blind rivet Ø 6.4x17.0 (area F).
  14. Rivet A-pillar paneling (1) with countersunk-head blind rivet Ø 6.4x14.0 (area G).
  15. Rivet A-pillar paneling (1) with rivet Ø 6.4x12 (area H).

    In the event of a complete repair job.

  16. A-pillar paneling (1) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (area J).
  17. A-pillar paneling (1) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (area K).

    In the event of a complete repair job.

  18. A-pillar paneling (1) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (area N).

    IMPORTANT Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.

  19. A-pillar paneling (1) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (area M).

    In the event of a partial repair.

    IMPORTANT Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.

  20. A-pillar paneling (1) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (areas L).

    In the event of a complete repair job.

    IMPORTANT Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.

  21. Grind inert gas welds down flat.
  22. Solder surfaces on A-pillar paneling (1) in area of inert gas welds with body solder and smooth.

    IMPORTANT A basic body filler can also be used as an alternative to the restoration of the surfaces with body solder.
