Overview

This document contains the following information:

General

The normalization of electrically driven component parts is the prerequisite for all automatically executed functions. For these functions, a precise detection of the component part's current position and any change to this position is required.

During normalization, the adjustment range is defined by determining the end or reversal point. From these, the current position of the component part can be determined using the signals of the Hall sensors in the electric motor or its current ripple factor. For this purpose, the evaluated signals are assigned numeric values. The numeric values are added or subtracted depending on the direction of actuation. The numeric values reflect the counter reading of the location counter. Normalization must be performed during initial startup or in a denormalized condition. It can be carried out manually or using the vehicle diagnosis system.

Normalizing manually

When normalizing manually, the component part must be moved via the control element against the end stop of its design position.

With a window lifter, for example, this is the side window closed position, with an electrically driven steering column this is the position front, top.

Then the control element must still be held for a short time. The location counter is then set to counter reading "0". The normalization procedure is completed.

IMPORTANT Depending on the setting options of component part, several normalization procedures may be required.

For example, an end stop must be approached for each setting option in order to normalize electrical seat adjustment.

System adaptation

After determining the end or reversal point, it is necessary, for most component parts, to carry out a system adaptation in the form of a learning procedure.

During a learning procedure, the component part is moved through all possible movements and the speed characteristics and power consumption of the electric motor are stored.

Low or continuous deviations - generated by wear to or dirt in the mechanical components - from the stored values are later adapted by the system.

The adapted values are then the new orientation values.
