Notes On Removal/Installation Of Bonded Elements Of Panoramic Roof - AH77.21-P-0001-01A
Model all (CAR, smart)
Notes on handling adhesive material and on the handling procedure involving cutting and repair work on the panoramic roof
The side window on the driver door must be open during the adhesive material's curing time.
Otherwise, the relevant element of the panoramic roof may be pushed outward by the resulting air pressure when the doors are closed.
If new parts were installed in the area of the panoramic sliding sunroof body flange during a body repair, mask off bonding surfaces before painting.
Otherwise, the strength of the adhesive material will be impaired and the required adhesive force of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Do not use the body outer skin for support when working on the roof.
Otherwise, the body could be damaged.
Use suitable fabric tape to mask off the roof cutout on the side roof paneling and at the front and rear window.
Otherwise there is a risk of damaging the vehicle paint job when cutting out.
The object and room temperature should be min. 15°C and should not exceed 35°C.
Otherwise, the strength of the adhesive material will be impaired and the required adhesive force of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Use only materials from the repair kit approved for the respective vehicle model.
Otherwise, the strength of the adhesive material will be impaired and the required adhesive force of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Do not touch bonding surfaces with bare fingers and they should be free of dust, oil, grease, wax and other adhesive components or dirt residues.
Otherwise, the strength of the adhesive material will be impaired and the required adhesive force of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Always allow primer to dry completely.
Otherwise, the adhesion of the adhesive material will be impaired.
Apply adhesive only after primer has completely dried.
Otherwise, the strength of the adhesive material will be impaired and the required adhesive force of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Ensure that adhesive material is applied only to present adhesive beads, which have been cut down, or to the original factory primer or repair primer approved by Daimler.
Otherwise, the strength of the adhesive material will be impaired and the required adhesive force of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Apply adhesive material as quickly as possible and place elements of panoramic roof onto body flange.
Otherwise, the strength of the adhesive material will be impaired and the required adhesive force of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Before starting work, all components, materials and tools must be prepared for installation.
Otherwise, the adhesion of the adhesive material will be impaired.
Observe following information at all times.
Otherwise, reliable and correct bonding is not possible and therefore not assured.
- Use only the repair kit approved by the manufacturer from the replacement part system.
- Note all the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.
- The single-component cold adhesive can be processed when cold, it does not need to be pre-heated.
- The two-component cold adhesive can be processed when warm, it needs to be pre-heated. Preheating is performed using a commercially available warm-up device.
- Apply activator (cleaner) to black bonding surface only. If activator is applied to transparent areas, wipe off immediately.
- Shake primer before use for at least 1 min.
- Do not apply primer to old adhesive bead residue. Apply primer to a new window or a body-in-white surface that is not primed.
- Apply single thin coating of primer all-over, without extended wiping.
- If the repair area has been primed, apply the primer only after the primer has dried.
- One cartridge of single-component adhesive is sufficient for installation of a window.
To press the remaining quantity of adhesive material out of the cartridge, it may be necessary to use an adapter.
- Always use the application nozzle included and do not change it. The application nozzle generates a functional adhesive bead at a height of approx. 13 mm.
- The width of the adhesive bead must be at least two thirds of the width of the adhesive bead markings on the component parts to be bonded.
Working on panoramic roof
- The use of approved materials and tools is absolutely necessary for proper repair because the material characteristics of the approved products influence the work results and labor times.
- Adhesive bonds are a part of the unibody construction. Always exercise particular care when performing work on bonded elements of the panoramic roof.
- After any fire damage, check the bondings and replace them, if necessary, as the adhesive is damaged by strong heat.
- Clean paint damages in the area of damaged points and treat with anticorrosion agents, then apply paint on the repair point (see guidelines for paint repair).
- After cleaning and priming, do not touch the bonding surfaces.
- Cut back any remaining adhesive residue to the required residual height of approx. 1 to 2 mm just before installation.
- Before applying adhesive to painted sheet metal, clean the gluing point and treat it with a primer (bonding agent).
- Do not move the vehicle until the adhesive has hardened (molding time) (observe adhesive manufacturer's specifications).
- Protect entire vehicle interior against soiling.
