Partially Remove Upper Front Longitudinal Member - Ar62.20-P-1287-01LW

IMPORTANT The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle on model 205 and must be performed in the same way on the right side in the event of damage.

  1. Expose spot welds on strut (2) and cut off (area A, B, C, D, E, F, and G).

    IMPORTANT Cut out spot welds through two sheet metal thicknesses (area B).

  2. Heat strut (2) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  3. Remove strut (2).

  4. Mark separating point on upper front longitudinal member (1) and cut (area I).

    NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    i = approx. 50 mm

  5. Remove screws (3) at upper front longitudinal member (1).
  6. Expose spot welds on upper front longitudinal member (1) and cut out (area J).
  7. Expose self-piercing riveting upper front longitudinal member (1) and drill with Ø 6 mm (area K).

  8. Heat upper front longitudinal member (1) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  9. Remove upper front longitudinal member (1).

  10. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  11. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
  12. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (area L).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
