The next steps are shown on model 205.0.
The crossmember can be separated at the standard joints or cut, if required.
Separation on the left at the standard joining point and on the right by cutting is shown below as an example.
- Mark separating point on crossmember (1) and cut (area A).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a1 = approx. 155 mm
a2 = approx. 155 mm
- Expose spot welds on crossmember (1) and cut off (areas B and C).
Cut out spot welds through two panel thicknesses (area C).
- Expose spot welds on crossmember (1) and drill with Ø 6.5 mm bit (area D).
- Expose insert gas weld crossmember (1) and cut (area E).
- Heat crossmember (1) in cross-hatched area.
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Remove crossmember (1).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on inside (area G).
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas F and G).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
