DANGER Risk of fire  /risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Perform commissioning of 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3). If the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) is replaced.  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06ME
2 Print out analysis sheet.    
REFER TO FORMS     OF54.10-P-3000-15FR 
INSPECT Check     
3 Check for potential hazards of 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3).    
REFER TO FORMS     OF54.10-P-3000-15FR 
    IMPORTANT In the event of smoke generation or fire, notify the fire department.
IMPORTANT Using 48 V lithium-ion battery analysis sheet form, check whether 48 V battery (G1/3) presents an acute danger.
 
4 Expose floor covering (1) in right rear passenger compartment far enough until battery cover (2) is accessible.   AR68.80-P-0003ME
5 Remove battery cover (2).    
INSPECT Check     
6 Check housing of 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) for mechanical damage    
REFER TO FORMS     OF54.10-P-3000-15FR 
    IMPORTANT Check non-visible area on housing after removal of 48 V battery (G1/3).
IMPORTANT Using 48 V lithium-ion battery analysis sheet form, check whether damage is present on 48 V battery (G1/3) through which electrolyte is leaking.
If damage is present,

Notify MPC/general representative.
 
7 Clamp off ground line of on-board electrical system battery (G1).   AR54.10-P-0003ME 
    IMPORTANT The 48 V on-board electrical system is automatically disconnected from power supply at the latest 10 s after disconnecting the ground line from the on-board electrical system battery (G1).  
8 Remove cover cap from nut (30).    
9 Remove nuts (30, 31, 32) and place electric lines to one side. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, positive line/ground line to DC/DC converter control unit/on-board electrical system battery (48V) *BA54.10-P-1006-01L 
10 Expose and remove nuts (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, battery box to holder of on-board electrical system battery (48Volt) *BA54.10-P-1009-01L 
11 Remove surrounding foam material (5) between 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) and battery housing.    
12 Release and disconnect electrical connectors (6), unclip from bracket (10) of 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) and place to one side.    
13 Remove foam material (4) above coolant hoses (7, 8) and degassing hose (9).    
14 Clamp off coolant hoses (7, 8), unlock using suitable means and detach from 48 V onboard electrical system battery (G1/3).   AR54.10-P-0022-01FR 
    IMPORTANT Collect escaping coolant using suitable vessel.

15 Unlock degassing hose (9) using suitable means and detach from 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3).   AR54.10-P-0022-01FR 
16 Remove 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) with DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1) and both brackets (10).    
17 Remove brackets (10) from 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3). If the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) is replaced.  
18 Disconnect DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1) from 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3). If the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) is replaced.

19 Remove escaped coolant from battery box.    
20 Install in the reverse order

21 Pour in coolant and bleed engine cooling system. Model 167 with engine 256, 264, 654, 656 with code B01 (48V technology) AR20.00-P-1142-04OLC
