Front Longitudinal Member Section Separation - Ar62.20-P-1260-01ME

Model 167 

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle in model 167.1. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Expose solder seam on striker plate (2) (area A).
  2. Cut off solder seam on striker plate (2) (area A).
  3. Expose spot welds on striker plate (2) (areas B).
  4. Cut off spot welds on striker plate (2) (areas B).
  5. Remove end plate (2).

  6. Mark separating point at longitudinal member front section (1) on outside (area C)

    IMPORTANT Observe dimension (C).

  7. Cut separating point at longitudinal member front section (1) on outside (area C)

    NOTES Do not cut too deeply. Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANT Observe dimension (C).

  8. Expose solder seams on longitudinal member front section (1) (areas D).
  9. Separate solder seams on longitudinal member front section (1) (areas D).
  10. Expose laser seam on longitudinal member front section (1) (area E1 )
  11. Cut off laser seam on longitudinal member front section (1) (area E1 )
  12. Expose spot welds on longitudinal member front section (1) (area E).
  13. Cut off spot welds on longitudinal member front section (1) (area E).

      Mark separating cut on inside parallel to separating cut on outside on longitudinal member front section (1).

      Mark separating point on longitudinal member front section (1) (area G).

      IMPORTANT Observe dimension (g).

      except code ME05 (Hybrid drive 85 kW-94 kW variant (incl. plug-in))

      Cut separating cut on inside parallel to separating cut on outside on longitudinal member front section (1).

      NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

      Separate separating point on longitudinal member front section (1) (area G).

      NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

      Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

      IMPORTANT Observe dimension (g).

  14. Expose spot welds on longitudinal member front section (1) (areas H and K).
  15. Cut off spot welds on longitudinal member front section (1) (areas H and K).

    Heat longitudinal member front section (1) in cross-hatched area.

    IMPORTANT Crosshatched area is bonded.

  17. Remove longitudinal member front section (1).

  18. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  19. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
  20. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (area L).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
