NOTES The protective ground conductor and insulation resistance measurement should only be performed after the vehicle has been de-energized.

Otherwise test results may be incorrect.

NOTES The protective ground conductor and insulation resistance measurement on a high-voltage component must never be performed between HV+ (positive) and HV- (negative).

The high-voltage component can otherwise be damaged.

IMPORTANT Use an insulation resistance meter as the test equipment.

NOTES Carefully connect probes of insulation resistance meter to high-voltage connections.

Otherwise the high-voltage connections may be damaged.

  1. Check and ensure that the insulation resistance meter is functioning properly in accordance with specifications from the manufacturer.
  2. Check equipotential bonding lines (3, 4) at body ground point (5) for tight seating. Model 253.311/353/911/953 with code ME05 (Hybrid drive 85 kW-94 kW variant (incl. plug-in)) TORQUE SPECIFICATION
  3. Check equipotential bonding line (4) at attachment point of high-voltage battery charger (1) for tight seating. Model 253.311/353/911/953 with code ME05 (Hybrid drive 85 kW-94 kW variant (incl. plug-in)) TORQUE SPECIFICATION
  4. Check equipotential bonding line (3) at attachment point of high-voltage battery (2) for tight seating. Model 253.311/353/911/953

  5. Open socket flap.

IMPORTANT When the vehicle has been de-energized, the socket flap can only be opened using the diagnostic system.

  6. Open cover of charger feed-in socket (X58/23).
  7. Adjust insulation resistance meter for resistance test.
  8. Perform resistance test using insulation resistance meter between protective ground conductor (PE) and body ground point (5) in load compartment.

    IMPORTANT Specified value < 1 Ω.

  9. Adjust insulation resistance meter for insulation resistance test and 500 V.
  10. Perform insulation resistance test using insulation resistance meter between phase L1 (L1) and protective ground conductor (PE).

IMPORTANT Specified value > 1 MΩ

  11. Perform insulation resistance test using insulation resistance meter between neutral conductor (N) and protective ground conductor (PE).

IMPORTANT Specified value > 1 MΩ.
