Remove/Install Rear Spoiler - AR72.20-P-4000LW

DANGER Risk of fire  and explosion caused by ignition of window washing fluid or antifreeze and their vapors. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing window washing fluid or antifreeze or inhaling their vapors. Risk of injury  or physical irritations caused by contact of window washing fluid or antifreeze with eyes, mucous membranes or skin. Wear protective clothing and tight-fitting safety glasses. No open flames, fire or ignition sources. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes and skin. When working with window washing fluids or antifreeze, do not eat, drink, or smoke. Do not inhale vapors and ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area. Store window washing fluid and antifreeze leak free in safely closed original containers and out of the reach of children. WARNING Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove upper liftgate trim. Model 205.2

    Model 253.1/9 AR72.20-P-6631LWG 
2 Release and disconnect electrical connector (6).    
3 Unlock and disconnect wash water hose coupling (7).    
4 Remove nuts (5). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace nuts (5).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, rear spoiler to tailgate *BA72.20-P-1010-02N 
5 Unclip the center rear spoiler (3) from the tailgate and remove. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining clips (8).
IMPORTANT Do not damage the paint surface.

6 Remove spray nozzle (9). When installing a new center rear spoiler (3).  
7 Remove center brake lamp (E21). When installing a new center rear spoiler (3).

8 Unclip side retrofit rear spoiler (4) on the left and right and remove. Model 205.2, 213.2
NOTES Do not pry against the rear window.
Otherwise, the rear window will be damaged.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining clips (1).
SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge

INSPECT Check     
9 Check seals at center rear spoiler (3) for damage. If damage is present,  
10 Check seals at side retrofit rear spoiler (4) on left and/or right for damage.
Replace center rear spoiler (3).
Model 205.2, 213.2
If damage is present:

Replace side retrofit rear spoiler (4) on left and/or right.
 
11 Check guides (2) at side retrofit rear spoiler (4 on left and/or right for damage. Model 205.2, 213.2
If damage is present:

Replace side retrofit rear spoiler (4) on left and/or right.
 
CLEAN Clean     
12 Clean bonding surfaces. NOTES Bonding surface should be free of grease and dust.
Otherwise, adhesion problems will occur.
IMPORTANT Model 205.2
Installation:  The center rear spoiler (3) is fixed in place with adhesive strips in addition. If the old part is re-used, the adhesive strips must be replaced.
 
    Cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1025-04A 
13 Install in the reverse order.    
  Concluding tasks     
14 Check gap dimensions on liftgate, adjust if necessary   AR72.20-P-0002LW
15 Perform function check of electrical consumers and spray nozzle (9) of center rear spoiler (3).
