Remove/Install Lower Liftgate Trim - AR72.20-P-6617LWS

REMOVING Remove     
1 Disassemble handle upper parts (2b) at the disassembly openings of the handles (2) from the handle lower parts (2a) and remove. IMPORTANT Do not remove handle lower parts (2a) from the bottom liftgate trim (1).
IMPORTANT Model 253.3
Only one handle (2) is installed on the right side of the lower liftgate paneling (1).
 
2 Remove clamps (3) with a suitable tool.    
3 Unclip bottom liftgate trim (1).    
4 Disconnect electrical connector from trunk lid/liftgate control button (S62/26). Model 205.2, 213.2, 253
with code 890 (EASY-PACK-tailgate)
 
5 Disconnect electrical connector from trailer hitch release switch (S62/24). Model 205.2, 213.2, 253
with code 550 (Trailer coupling)
 
6 Disconnect electrical connector from ambient lamp and left trunk lid/liftgate warning lamp (E40/2).    
7 Remove bottom liftgate trim (1).    
INSPECT Check     
8 Check clamps (3) for damage. If there is a problem,  
   
Install new clamps (3).
 
INSTALLING Install     
9 Install clamps (3) with the engagement downward into the handle lower parts (2a). NOTES The latching lugs (arrows A) of the clamps (3) must enclose the handle lower part (2a) correctly.
Otherwise injury and damage may occur when opening and closing the liftgate.
IMPORTANT The clamps (3) must engage audibly.
 
10 Assemble handle upper parts (2b) and handle lower parts (2a).    
11 Install assembled handles (2) into the remove (bottom liftgate trim (1). IMPORTANT Ensure that the handles (2) are seated correctly in the bottom liftgate trim (1).  
12 Connect electrical connector to ambient lamp and left trunk lid/liftgate warning lamp (E40/2).    
13 Connect electrical connector to trailer hitch release switch (S62/24). Model 205.2, 213.2, 253
with code 550 (Trailer coupling)
 
14 Connect electrical connector to the trunk lid/liftgate control button (S62/26). Model 205.2, 213.2, 253
with code 890 (EASY-PACK-tailgate)
 
15 Position bottom liftgate trim (1), starting with the handles (2), at the liftgate and clip in.    
INSPECT Check     
16 Pull handles (2) horizontally toward the rear and check for tight seating on the liftgate at both attachment points. NOTES The firm seating of the handles (2) must be ensured.
Otherwise injury and damage may occur when opening and closing the liftgate.
If a clamp (3) detaches during the tensile test,

Check clamp (3) and replace if applicable.
Then repeat the test.
