Install CROSSMEMBER Above Rear Axle - Ar64.20-P-1301-01LWG

  1. Install rear axle crossmember (1) with straightening tool, fit and fix in place.
  2. Transfer positions of present holes in body to rear axle crossmember (1) with drill hole finder (area A3 ).
  3. Drill rivet holes on rear axle crossmember (1) with a diameter of 6.7 mm (area A1 , A2 , A3 , and A4 ).

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet holes from top through present holes in body (area A1 and A0 .

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet holes from bottom through present holes in body (area A2 ).

  4. Remove rear axle crossmember (1).
  5. Deburr rivet holes on rear axle crossmember (1) and body on both sides.
  6. Remove drilling chips.

    IMPORTANT The following steps 7 and 8 are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side of the vehicle.

  7. Drill rivet holes on rear axle crossmember (1) with a diameter of 6.7 mm through the holes present in the body (area B1 and B2 ).
  8. Drill holes present in the inner body with a diameter of 10 mm by one panel thickness (area B2 ).
  9. Remove rear axle crossmember (1).
  10. Deburr rivet holes on rear axle crossmember (1) and body on both sides.
  11. Remove drilling chips.

  12. Apply 2-component adhesive to crosshatched area of body.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

    IMPORTANT The work step 13 is shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same fashion on the right side of the vehicle.

  13. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Apply 2-component adhesive to inside (area C). Some of the 2-component adhesive is wiped off in this area when the rear axle cross member is installed; it is necessary to compensate for this by applying an additional amount. Apply 2-component adhesive to new part.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  14. Install rear axle crossmember (1) with straightening tool and fix in place.
  15. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with rivets with a diameter of 6.5 x 14.5 (areas D1 ).
  16. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with rivet with a diameter of 6.4 M6 (area D2 ).
  17. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with rivet with a diameter of 6.4 (area D3 ).
  18. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with rivet with a diameter of 6.5 x 12.5 from the top (area D4 ).

    IMPORTANT The following operation step 19 is shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

  19. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.5x14.5 rivets (areas E1 ).

  20. Install rear axle crossmember top section (2), fit and fix in place.
  21. Drill rivet holes on the upper section of the rear axle crossmember (2) with a diameter of 6.7 mm (area F1 , F2 , and F3 ).

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet holes from bottom through present holes in body (area F1 ).

    Drill rivet holes from bottom through present holes in body (area F2 ).

    Drill rivet holes through present holes in rear axle crossmember upper section (2) (area F3 and F4 ).

  22. Remove rear axle crossmember top section (2).
  23. Drill present holes in rear axle crossmember top section (2) with Ø 7 mm (areas F4 ).

    IMPORTANT The holes (area F4 ) serve as access to self-tapping head screws M5.

  24. Deburr rivet holes on rear axle crossmember top section (2) and body on both sides.
  25. Remove drilling chips.

  26. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  27. Install rear axle crossmember top section (2) and fix in place.
  28. Rivet rear axle crossmember top section (2) with Ø 6.4x12 rivets (area H1 ).
  29. Rivet rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with rivets with a diameter of 6.5 x 12.5 (area H2 ).
  30. Rivet rear axle crossmember top section (2) with Ø 6.5x14.5 rivets (area H3 ).
  31. Screw self-tapping fillister head screws M5 (5) into rear axle crossmember top section (2).

    IMPORTANT The following operation steps 32 to 51 are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed analogously on the right side.

  32. Install rear longitudinal member section (7), fit, and fix in place.
  33. Drill rivet holes in rear longitudinal member section (7) with Ø 6.7 mm through present holes in rear longitudinal member section (7) (area J).
  34. Remove rear longitudinal member section (7).
  35. Deburr rivet holes on rear longitudinal member section (7) and body on both sides.
  36. Remove drilling chips.

  37. Apply 2-component adhesive in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  38. Install rear longitudinal member section (7) and fix in place.
  39. Rivet rear longitudinal member section (7) with Ø 6.5x12.5 rivets (area K1 ).
  40. Rivet rear longitudinal member section (7) Ø 6.5x14.5 rivets (area K2 ).
  41. Rivet rear longitudinal member section (7) with Ø 6.4 rivet (area K3 ).
  42. Rear longitudinal member section (7) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (area K4 ).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.

  43. Install left end plate (3), fit and fix in place.
  44. Drill rivet holes on left striker plate (3) with a diameter of 6.7 mm (area N1 and N2 ).

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet holes through the holes present in the left striker plate (3) (area N2 ).

  45. Remove left end plate (3).
  46. Deburr rivet holes on left end plate (3) and body on both sides.
  47. Remove drilling chips.

  48. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.

  49. Install left end plate (3) and fix in place.
  50. Rivet left end plate (3) with rivet with a diameter of 6.5 x 14.5 (area O1 ).
  51. Rivet left striker plate (3) with rivet with a diameter of 6.4 (area O2 ).
