Manual interior lights control in general
The manual interior lights control makes it possible to switch the interior illumination, the reading illumination, the mirror lamps and the glove compartment illumination on and off.
The manual interior lights control function encompasses the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence for interior illumination
- Function sequence for reading illumination
- Function sequence for actuation of mirror lamps
- Function sequence for glove compartment illumination
Function sequence for interior illumination
The overhead control panel control unit reads in the status of the dome lamp buttons directly and sends this via the roof LIN to the front SAM control unit. The front SAM control unit sends the request to switch on the interior illumination via roof LIN to the overhead control panel control unit, which then directly actuates the corresponding components.
The following components of the interior illumination are switched on or off manually by operating the front dome lamp button:
- Front dome lamp (Model 205.0/1/2/3, 253)
- Left interior/reading lamp (Model 205.4)
- Right interior/reading lamp (Model 205.4)
- Left reading lamp
- Right reading lamp
The following components of the interior illumination are manually switched on or off dimmed by operating the rear dome lamp button (Model 205.0/1/2/3, 253):
- Left rear interior lamp (Model 205.0/1/2, 253)
- Right rear interior lamp (Model 205.0/1/2, 253)
- Rear dome lamp (Model 205.3 with CODE 876 (Interior lights package))
- Left rear vanity mirror dome lamp (Model 205.1)
- Right rear vanity mirror dome lamp (Model 205.1)
In vehicles with CODE 876 (Interior lights package), the front SAM control unit also actuates the following footwell illumination components along with the interior illumination directly:
- Right front footwell lamp
- Left front footwell lamp
- Left rear footwell lamp
- Right rear footwell lamp
Function sequence for reading illumination
The reading illumination serves to illuminate a defined area in front of the user, without having a distracting dazzling effect on the driver. The overhead control panel control unit reads in the status of the reading lamp buttons directly and sends this via roof LIN to the front SAM control unit. The front SAM control unit sends the request to switch on the reading lamp via the roof LIN to the overhead control panel control unit, which then directly actuates the corresponding components.
The following reading lamp components can be switched on or off manually by pressing the reading lamp buttons:
- Left reading lamp through left front reading lamp button
- Right reading lamp through right front reading lamp button
- Left rear reading lamp via the left rear reading lamp button (Model 205.0/1/2, 253 with CODE 876 (Interior lights package))
- Right rear reading lamp via the right rear reading lamp button (Model 205.0/1/2, 253 with CODE 876 (Interior lights package))
Function sequence for actuation of mirror lamps
The mirror lamp switches are powered by the front SAM control unit. The following mirror lamps can be manually switched on or off by opening or closing the corresponding mirror covers:
- Left sun visor mirror lamp via the left front mirror lamp switch
- Right sun visor mirror lamp over the right front mirror lamp switch
- Left rear vanity mirror illumination through the left rear vanity mirror illumination switch (Model 205.1)
- Right rear vanity mirror illumination through right rear vanity mirror illumination switch (Model 205.1)
The power supply is switched off by folding the sun visor closed or by locking the vehicle.
To preserve the on-board electrical system battery (G1), the power supply is switched off at t = 30 min after circuit 15 OFF. The power supply for the left sun visor mirror lamp and the right sun visor mirror lamp is switched off when the vehicle is locked using the central locking (CL [ZV]) system.
Additional function requirements for glove compartment illumination
- Circuit 15R ON
The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 15 to the front SAM control unit via the interior CAN.
Function sequence for glove compartment illumination
The glove compartment lamp switch is supplied with voltage by the front SAM control unit. Voltage is switched through to the glove compartment lamp by opening the glove compartment door.
After switching off circuit 15C the glove compartment lamp is switched off after t = 30 s.
