WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

INSPECT Check     
1 Remove cover over brake fluid reservoir (1)    
2 Clean area around cap of brake fluid reservoir (1) Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
3 Unscrew cap of brake fluid reservoir (1)    
4 Connect filling unit to brake fluid reservoir (1)

REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Brake fluids (DOT 4 plus)   BB00.40-P-0331-00A
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS General brake fluid   BB00.40-P-0330-01A
5 Raise vehicle   AR00.60-P-1002LWG
6 Remove bleed screw from left front brake caliper (2) and connect test equipment (3)    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 07 21 00 Test equipment NOTES
Test equipment (3) for hydraulic oil systems may not be used for systems with brake fluid.
Otherwise the brake fluid will be mixed with mineral oil, which can cause brake failure.

7 Vent test equipment (3) IMPORTANT The test equipment (3) must then be switched off.  
8 Start engine and run    
9 Cover up brake pedal and driver's seat in brake pedal jack (010) system area    
10 Depress brake pedal and insert brake pedal jack (010) with adapter between brake pedal and driver's seat SPECIAL TOOL Brake pedal jack Fig 1

11 Read off and note brake pressure on high-pressure gauge of test equipment (3)    
12 Read off brake pressure again after the specified test period on the test equipment's (3) high-pressure manometer and compare against previously-noted value Check values for leak test
If brake-pressure loss is too high

Determine leakage in brake system and repair brake system.

13 Switch off engine and remove brake pedal jack (010) with adapter    
14 Reduce vacuum in BAS brake booster (A7/7) by depressing brake pedal several times    
15 Depress brake pedal and insert brake pedal jack (010) with adapter between brake pedal and driver's seat SPECIAL TOOL Brake pedal jack Fig 1

16 Slowly move brake pedal jack (010) back until low-pressure manometer on test equipment (3) shows specified brake pressure Check values for leak test *BE42.10-P-1001-19A 
17 Read off brake pressure after specified test period on test equipments (3) low-pressure manometer Check values for leak test
In event of brake pressure loss

Determine leakage in brake system and repair brake system.

18 Remove brake pedal jack (010) and adapter    
19 Disconnect test equipment (3) from brake caliper (2) and screw vent screw all the way into brake caliper (2)    
20 Vent left, front brake caliper (2) Model 205

21 Disconnect filling unit from brake fluid reservoir (1)    
22 Correct fluid level in brake fluid reservoir (1)

REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 213, 253 AP42.10-P-4210B
23 Screw cap onto brake fluid reservoir (1)    
24 Install cover over brake fluid reservoir (1)
