- Slide joint flange (1) onto drive pinion (2).
While doing so, line up the color codings made during removal relative to the groove (arrow) on the drive pinion (2).
Plug Allen wrench (010) into joint flange (1).
- Screw on and tighten new collar nut (3). Model 253 with code 700 (Vehicle production location China)
Model 213
with code 700 (Vehicle production location China)
Model 204 with transmission 711, 716, 722

Plug torque meter (040b) with
connection piece (040c) and
socket (040a) to collar nut (3) on the joint flange (1).
- Measure friction torque and compare against value noted before removal of joint flange (1).
If the measured value is too small:
↓
Increase specified tightening torque by 10 Nm and retighten collar nut (3).
- Measure friction torque.
If the measured value is too small:
↓
Increase specified tightening torque by another 10 Nm and tighten collar nut (3).
Repeat procedure until the friction value noted before removal of the joint flange (1) is reached.
- Carefully drive upper collar of collar nut (3) using caulker into groove (arrow) on the drive pinion (2).
Do not apply any impacts in the axial direction.
Otherwise, the friction torque may be reduced, whereby noise may develop and there may be damage to the rear axle differential.
