- Using a lint-free dry cloth, remove dirt, oil, and other contaminants from the sealing surfaces.
- Spray Loctite 7200 adhesive and sealant remover onto the sealing surfaces and allow it to take effect for approximately 10 to 20 minutes.
Use only the approved adhesive and sealant remover for cleaning.
Observe the manufacturer's processing instructions.
- Remove dissolved silicone sealant from the sealing surfaces and wipe with a lint-free dry cloth.
Do not use sharp-edged tools or sandpaper.
Otherwise, the sealing surfaces can be damaged and, as a result, the engine and the environment can be damaged.
The removal of seal residues using mechanical processing, sandpaper, or other abrasive materials is not permitted.
Engine damage can result from even the smallest amounts of abrasive particles and abrasion introduced into the engine oil space, the bearings, or the combustion chambers.
The sealing surfaces must then feel even. The sealing surfaces do not have to be bare metal. Thin layers of the firmly adhering silicone sealant may remain (see illustration).
- Thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces using Loctite 7063 cleaning spray. Blow dry with compressed air.
Allow the Loctite 7063 cleaning spray to evaporate completely before applying the new silicone sealant.
Otherwise there may be leaks.
