The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In the event of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be carried out in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.
The main service document and the safety notes in the service document must be observed.
- Mark separating points on rear fender (1) and separate (areas A, B).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a = approx. 100 mm
Mark separating point along Y-markings (area B).
- Separate adhesive bead between the rear outer wheel well and the rear fender (1) (area C).
The rear fender is bonded to the outer rear wheel well (1).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas D).
Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas E).
Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and drill through with 6.5 mm bit (area F).
- Heat rear fender (1) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Heat rear fender (1) in crosshatched area.
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Remove rear fender (1).
- Remove remaining adhesive material in area of outer rear wheel well (area J).
The height of the remaining adhesive should be max. 2 mm. Always remove loose adhesive.
- Repair bare spots in area of outer rear wheel well with primer stick (area J).
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on inside (area H).
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas G, H).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
