The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In the event of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be carried out in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.
The main service document and the safety notes in the service document must be observed.
- Install rear fender (1) and fit.
- Install trunk lid.
- Install rear bumper.
- Install taillamp.
- Install door seal.
- Install striker eye.
- Check gaps using
feeler gauge and adjust.
- Fix rear fender (1) in place.
- Remove striker eye.
- Remove door seal.
- Remove taillamp.
- Remove rear bumper.
- Remove trunk lid.
- Drill rivet holes on rear fender (1) with 6.7 mm bit (areas A, B1
, B2
).
Drill rivet holes through present holes in body (area B2 ).
- Countersink rivet holes (areas B1 , B2 ).
- Remove rear fender (1).
- Deburr rivet holes on rear fender (1) and body on both sides.
- Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint (areas A, B1
).
- Install suitable spacers on outer rear wheel well at uniform intervals (area E).
- Apply sealant to outer rear wheel well and foam parts (areas E, F).
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas (areas C, D).
Apply 2-component adhesive to inside (area C).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install rear fender (1) and fix in place.
- Rivet rear fender (1) with countersunk head rivets with a diameter of 6.4 x 14.0 (areas G).
- Rear fender (1)

- Rear fender (1)
(area J).
- Rivet rear fender (1) with rivets with a diameter of 6.4 x 12 (area K).
- Rear fender (1)
(areas L).
- Rear fender (1)
(areas M).
Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.
- Face grind inert gas weld joints (areas M).
- Solder surfaces on rear fender (1) with body solder and smooth (areas M).
As an alternative to restoring the surfaces with a body solder, it is also possible to use a basic body filler.
- Remove solder residues and grinding dust.
