The following operation steps are shown on model 257.

The safety information in the superordinate service document must be observed.
- Install rear axle crossmember (1) with the straightener, fit and fix in place.
- Drill rivet holes with rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas A1
, A2
, A3
, A4
).
Drill rivet holes through existing holes on rear axle crossmember (1) (areas A).
Drill rivet holes from top through existing holes in body (areas A2, A3, A4).
- Countersink rivet holes in rear axle crossmember (1) from top (areas A3) .
- Drill existing holes in inner body with Ø 10 mm bit one panel thickness (areas A4)

The following operation steps, 5 and 6, are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.
- Drill rivet holes in rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.7 mm through holes present in body (areas B1 , B2 ).
- Drill hole present in inner body Ø 10 mm one panel thickness (area B2 ).
- Remove rear axle crossmember (1).
- Deburr rivet holes on rear axle crossmember (1) and body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.
The operation step is shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install rear axle crossmember (1) with straightener and fix in place.
- Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.4 rivet (areas C1 ).
- Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.5x12.5 rivet from top (areas C2 ).
- Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.4 M6 rivet (areas C3).
The following operation steps, 15 and 16, are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.
- Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.5x14.5 rivet (areas E1 ).
- Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.4 rivet (areas E2
).
- Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.4x19.0 countersunk head rivet (areas D1 ).
- Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.4x17.0 countersunk head rivet (areas D2).
- Install rear axle crossmember upper section (2), fit and fix in place.
- Drill rivet holes on rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas Fi
, F2
, F3
).
Drill rivet holes from bottom through present holes in body (area F1 ).
Drill rivet holes from bottom through present holes in body (area F2) .
Drill rivet holes through existing holes in rear axle crossmember upper section (2) (areas F3 ).
- Remove top section of the rear axle crossmember (2).
- Deburr rivet holes on rear axle crossmember upper section (2) and body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install rear axle crossmember upper section (2) and fix in place.
- Rivet rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with Ø 6, 4x12 rivet (area H1 ).
- Rivet rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with Ø 6.5x12.5 rivet (area H2) .
- Rivet rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with Ø 6.5x14.5 rivet (areas H3) .
- Rivet rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with Ø 6.4 rivet (areas H4
).
The following operation steps, 30 to 47, are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.
- Install rear longitudinal member section (6), fit and fix in place.
- Drill rivet holes in rear longitudinal member section (6) with Ø 6.7 mm bit through existing holes in rear longitudinal member section (6) (area J).
- Remove section of the rear longitudinal member (6).
- Deburr rivet holes on rear longitudinal member section (6) and body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Apply the 2-component adhesive to crosshatched area.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install rear longitudinal member section (6) and fix in place.
- Rivet rear longitudinal member section (6) with Ø 6.5x14.5 rivet (area K1 ).
- Rivet rear longitudinal member section (6) with Ø 6.4 rivet (area K2 ).
- Rear longitudinal member section (6) SG
(area K3).
Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.
- Install striker plate (3), fit and fix in place.
- Bend sheet metal cutout on striker plate (3) down in direction of arrow.
- Drill rivet holes on striker plate (3) with Ø 6.7 mm bit (areas L1
, L2,
L3
).
Drill rivet holes through existing holes in striker plate (3) (areas L1 ).
- Remove striker plate (3).
- Deburr rivet holes on striker plate (3) and body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install striker plate (3) and fix in place.
- Rivet striker plate (3) with Ø 6.4 M6 rivet (areas M2
, M3
).
Left side of vehicle.
