Install CROSSMEMBER Above Rear Axle - Ar64.20-P-1301-01FR

Model 257, 290 

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on model 257.

  1. Install rear axle crossmember (1) with the straightener, fit and fix in place.
  2. Drill rivet holes with rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas A1 , A2 , A3 , A4 ).

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet holes through existing holes on rear axle crossmember (1) (areas A).

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet holes from top through existing holes in body (areas A2, A3, A4).

  3. Countersink rivet holes in rear axle crossmember (1) from top (areas A3) .
  4. Drill existing holes in inner body with Ø 10 mm bit one panel thickness (areas A4) .

    IMPORTANT The following operation steps, 5 and 6, are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

  5. Drill rivet holes in rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.7 mm through holes present in body (areas B1 , B2 ).
  6. Drill hole present in inner body Ø 10 mm one panel thickness (area B2 ).
  7. Remove rear axle crossmember (1).
  8. Deburr rivet holes on rear axle crossmember (1) and body on both sides.
  9. Remove drilling chips.

  10. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT The operation step is shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

    Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  11. Install rear axle crossmember (1) with straightener and fix in place.
  12. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.4 rivet (areas C1 ).
  13. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.5x12.5 rivet from top (areas C2 ).
  14. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.4 M6 rivet (areas C3).

    IMPORTANT The following operation steps, 15 and 16, are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

  15. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.5x14.5 rivet (areas E1 ).
  16. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.4 rivet (areas E2 ).

  17. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.4x19.0 countersunk head rivet (areas D1 ).
  18. Rivet rear axle crossmember (1) with Ø 6.4x17.0 countersunk head rivet (areas D2).

  19. Install rear axle crossmember upper section (2), fit and fix in place.
  20. Drill rivet holes on rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas Fi , F2 , F3 ).

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet holes from bottom through present holes in body (area F1 ).

    Drill rivet holes from bottom through present holes in body (area F2) .

    Drill rivet holes through existing holes in rear axle crossmember upper section (2) (areas F3 ).

  21. Remove top section of the rear axle crossmember (2).
  22. Deburr rivet holes on rear axle crossmember upper section (2) and body on both sides.
  23. Remove drilling chips.

  24. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  25. Install rear axle crossmember upper section (2) and fix in place.
  26. Rivet rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with Ø 6, 4x12 rivet (area H1 ).
  27. Rivet rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with Ø 6.5x12.5 rivet (area H2) .
  28. Rivet rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with Ø 6.5x14.5 rivet (areas H3) .
  29. Rivet rear axle crossmember upper section (2) with Ø 6.4 rivet (areas H4 ).

    IMPORTANT The following operation steps, 30 to 47, are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

  30. Install rear longitudinal member section (6), fit and fix in place.
  31. Drill rivet holes in rear longitudinal member section (6) with Ø 6.7 mm bit through existing holes in rear longitudinal member section (6) (area J).
  32. Remove section of the rear longitudinal member (6).
  33. Deburr rivet holes on rear longitudinal member section (6) and body on both sides.
  34. Remove drilling chips.

  35. Apply the 2-component adhesive to crosshatched area.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  36. Install rear longitudinal member section (6) and fix in place.
  37. Rivet rear longitudinal member section (6) with Ø 6.5x14.5 rivet (area K1 ).
  38. Rivet rear longitudinal member section (6) with Ø 6.4 rivet (area K2 ).
  39. Rear longitudinal member section (6) SG SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (area K3).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.

  40. Install striker plate (3), fit and fix in place.
  41. Bend sheet metal cutout on striker plate (3) down in direction of arrow.

  42. Drill rivet holes on striker plate (3) with Ø 6.7 mm bit (areas L1 , L2, L3 ).

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet holes through existing holes in striker plate (3) (areas L1 ).

  43. Remove striker plate (3).
  44. Deburr rivet holes on striker plate (3) and body on both sides.
  45. Remove drilling chips.
  46. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  47. Install striker plate (3) and fix in place.
  48. Rivet striker plate (3) with Ø 6.4 M6 rivet (areas M2 , M3 ).

    Left side of vehicle.

    IMPORTANT The following operation steps, 52 to 55, are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

    Left side of vehicle.

  49. Rivet striker plate (3) with Ø 6.4x21.0 countersunk-head blind rivet (area M2 ).

    Right side of vehicle.

  50. Rivet striker plate (3) with Ø 6.4x19.0 countersunk-head blind rivet (area M3 ).

    Right side of vehicle.

  51. Rivet striker plate (3) with Ø 6.4 M6 rivet (areas M4 ).
  52. Rivet striker plate (3) with Ø 6.4 rivet (areas M5 ).
  53. Rivet striker plate (3) with Ø 6.5x14.5 rivet (areas M6 ).
  54. Rivet striker plate (3) with Ø 6.5x12.5 rivet (area M7 ).
  55. Wheel well (5) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (areas M1 ).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.
