WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1.1 Remove left front axle shaft. If radial shaft sealing ring (1) at left front axle shaft is removed. AR33.30-P-0620MFA
1.2 Remove the catalytic converter. If radial shaft sealing ring (1) at right front axle shaft is removed. Transmission 724.0 in model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 AR49.20-P-0100MFC
2 Remove screws (2) and remove heat shield (3). If radial shaft sealing ring (1) at right front axle shaft is removed.  
3 Pry radial shaft sealing ring (1) out of transmission (27) using a suitable tool.    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) (specification 236.21) NOTES
Do not damage seat surface of radial shaft
sealing ring (1).
Otherwise, leaks can occur on the
transmission (27).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Coat radial shaft sealing ring
(1) on sealing lip with gear oil.

INSPECT Check     
4 Check seat surface of radial shaft sealing ring (1). NOTES
The seat surface on the radial shaft sealing
ring (1) at left or right must not exhibit any damage.
Otherwise, leaks can occur on the
transmission (27).
If damage is found,

replace transmission (27).

5 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
6 Check transmission oil level, correct, if necessary.   AR27.00-P-0104MFC
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
7 Perform engine test run, check transmission (27) for proper operation and leak tightness while doing so.
