Remove/Install Rear Axle Brake Caliper - AR42.10-P-0080MFA

Model 118, 177, 243, 247 

MODIFICATION NOTES

DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  . Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Move rear axle brake pads into assembly position. NOTES
Do not depress the service brake during "Move to assembly position".
Otherwise, the spindle in the brake caliper (1) can be damaged.

2 Release and disconnect electrical connector (2) from left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2).    
3 Remove brake hose (4). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace brake hose (4).
Always replace brake hose (4) after removal.

4 Unscrew screws (3) and remove brake caliper (1). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, guide pin to brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1002-12X 
5 Remove left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2) from brake caliper (1). When replacing the brake caliper (1).  
      AR42.20-P-0600MFA 
INSPECT Check     
6 Check brake caliper (1) for damage. If there is a problem,

replace brake caliper (1).
 
7 Check dust boot at brake piston for damage. If there is a problem,

replace brake caliper (1).
 
8 Check brake pads for wear and condition.

REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 118
If there is a problem,

replace brake linings.

9 Check brake caliper support (5) for damage. If there is a problem,

Replace brake caliper support (5).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, brake caliper to wheel carrier
*BA42.10-P-1001-12X 
10 Check brake disk for wear and condition.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 243 AP42.10-P-4256C
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 118, 177, 247 AP42.10-P-4256EW
    If there is a problem,

replace brake disks and brake pads in sets. Brake disk

    Rear axle brake linings AR42.10-P-1710MFA 
11 Install in the reverse order.    
12 Operate brake pedal several times until the brake pads contact the brake disks. IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
13 Perform brake test on test stand.
