The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Remove all 6 threaded pins for the mount of the crossmember.
Install new threaded pins.
- Expose spot welds on the rear-end center section (1) and cut off (areas A1 , A2 , A3 , A5 , A6 , A7 ).
- Expose spot welds in rear-end center section (1) and drill through with a diameter of 6.5 mm (areas B1 , B2 and A4 ).
- Expose spot welds on rear-end center section (1) and drill through with a diameter of 6.5 mm (areas C1
and C2
).
- Heat rear-end center section (1) in cross-hatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove rear-end center section (1).
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas on the inside (areas E).
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges onto connecting flanges that are no longer accessible after installing side roof paneling.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas D1 , D2 , D3 and D4 ).
Otherwise adhesion problems can occur.
- Apply zinc dust paint to the insides of the mating surfaces in the cross-hatched area (areas E).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in the cross-hatched areas on the inside.
- Remove grinding dust.
- Apply zinc dust paint to the insides of the mating surfaces in the cross-hatched areas.
