Irregular Wear Defined: Notes

Irregular wear is defined as undesirable wear of individual tread elements or elements around the tire. Some examples induce heel/toe wear, diagonal wear, and spot wear. (See TMC RP 219D - Radial Tire Wear Conditions And Causes: A Guide To Wear Pattern Analysis The onset of irregular wear often results in the premature removal of tires from service, adversely affects visual appearance, fuel economy, and tire costs to name a few. Early identification of a tire with wear concerns may be noted visually by the service technician or reviewing driver write-ups.

Many of the irregular wear patterns share some common factors, each of which require investigation when troubleshooting a specific wear pattern. These common factors are detailed below:
