Lead-Free Wheel Weight Initiative

The US EPA is encouraging the reduction of lead in the manufacture, use and sale of wheel weights, thereby reducing the release of one source of lead into the environment. In order to accelerate the transition away from lead wheel weights, the EPA has launched the NLFWWI. This initiative is a partnership of federal agencies, states, wheel weight manufacturers, retailers, tire manufacturers, automobile trade associations and environmentalists to reduce the use of lead and encourage the use of an alternative in the manufacture and use of wheel balancing weights.
