Appendix I Glossary Of Database Fields
Adjustment Value: Credit given by tire manufacturers and retreaders for warranty.
Allowed Axles: Position fleet specifies tires to be installed.
Casing Value: The price obtained by fleets who sell their casings.
Cost/Mile: Tire cost divided by tire removal mileage; a measure of tire performance.
Cost/32nd: Tire cost divided by 32nds of tread-wear.
Date Installed: Date tire is installed on a vehicle.
Date Out of Service: Date tire is scrapped, traded, or sold.
Date of Purchase: Date tire is purchased.
Date Removed: Date tire is removed from the vehicle for repair, retreading, or disposal.
Date Returned from Retreader: Date tire is returned after retreading.
Date Sent to Retreader: Date tire is sent to be re-treaded.
DOT Code: The original tire DOT code or number molded into the tire, which denotes the week and year of manufacturer or retread.
Driver: Driver assigned to the tractor.
Failure Code: See "Tire Failure Codes."
Installation Mileage: The mileage of the vehicle when the tire or retread was installed on a vehicle.
Installation Tread Depth: Tread depth at time of installation on a vehicle.
Invoice Number: Invoice number of new tire, retread, and/or repair.
Inventory Location: Garage, terminal, tire bank or other facility location code.
Labor Costs: Costs of labor for any aspect of tire maintenance; e.g., removal, installation, mounting, demounting, repairing, etc. (can include employee benefits).
Labor Hours: The number of hours of labor expended on any aspect of tire maintenance. (See labor costs). This can be used for tracking hours vs. costs.
License Plate Number: License plate number of vehicle.
Miles/32nd: Mileage obtained divided by the number of 32nds of tread worn; a measure of tread wear performance.
Original Tread Depth: Tread depth of original tire or retread when new.
Ply Rating: Load range.
Purchase Order Number: Number used internally to track purchases.
RAR (Returned as Received) Codes: Codes assigned to tire conditions that are detected by the retreader which preclude tires from being retreaded.
Reason for Removal: Reason tire was removed from the vehicle.
Reason for Scrap: Numerical or alpha code to designate a reason why tire cannot be returned to service. See Appendix II for tire conditions and codes.
Removal Mileage: Mileage when tire or retread was removed from the vehicle.
Removal Tread Depth: Tread depth at time of removal.
Repair Cost: Cost of tire repairs.
Repair Type: Type of repair; e.g., section, nail hole, spot, etc.
Retread Design: Name of tread design of retread.
Retreader's DOT Code: The complete retreader's DOT code includes three letters which identifies the retreader (e.g., ABC) and three or four numbers which indicate the date the tire was retreaded (e.g., 296, meaning the tire was retreaded the 29th week of 1996; or 2901, meaning the tire was retreaded the 29th week of 2001.
Retread Method: The type of retread system used to retread the tire; i.e., mold cure, precure, Flexcure, etc. Brand names could also be used.
Retreading System: See "Retread Method."
Terminal: Location where vehicle is domiciled.
Tire Acquisition Price: Acquisition price of new tire including tax plus other labor and related material.
Tire Brand: Name of tire manufacturer.
Tire Failure Code: Numerical or alpha code designated for each failure condition identified and used in the database. See Appendix II for tire conditions and codes.
Tire Identification Number: A unique number that is branded on the tire, or installed on a bar code or in a computer chip in a radio frequency identifier (RFID).
Tire Model: Name of tire model as determined on side of tire; e.g., R299, XZA-1, G362, etc.
Tire Position: (See Wheel Position .)
Tire PSI: Tire inflation pressure.
Tire Size: Size designation of tire.
Tire Status: Current situation of tire; i.e., in inventory, installed on vehicle, at retreader, disposed, awaiting decision, etc.
Tire Type: Rib or lug.
Total Casing Life: Total tire life in years/months.
Total Original Mileage: Total removal mileage achieved as an original tread tire.
Total Retread Mileage: Total miles run as a retread.
Total Life Tire Cost: Total tire costs including labor, repairs, and retreads incurred over the life of the tire.
Total Tire Mileage: The total mileage accumulated by the tire over its whole life, including retreads.
Tread Width: Tire tread width; usually used to determine the proper width of the retread that is applied.
Vendor: Company from which the tire, retread, repair, or service was obtained.
Vehicle Type: Description of vehicle on which the tire is installed; i.e., tractor, single, tandem, trailer, etc.
Vehicle/Unit Number: Fleet-assigned vehicle number for tractors, trailers and dollies.
Warranty: Warranty coverage used for tracking purposes; i.e., guaranteed miles, number of retreads, etc.
Wheel Position: The position in which the tire is installed.
Work Order Repair Order (RO) Number: Document used to track repairs.
