Drive concept in Sprinter with rear wheel drive

4-cylinder diesel engine OM 651

The new Sprinter is offered with the established 4-cylinder diesel engine OM 651 with optimized, consumption-reducing measures. Engine OM 651 is used for the market launch of the Sprinter with the following performance variants:

Two-stage sequential turbocharging is used as a charging system to optimize pollutant and consumption emissions. Two differently sized exhaust gas turbochargers connected in series and with boost pressure control are used for all vehicles with rear-wheel drive. The optimized common rail injection system works with a system pressure of up to 2,000 bar. The injection pressure within the rail is achieved through a regulated high-pressure pump. Magnet-operated power-assisted injectors are installed.

Emissions levels

In the diesel engine in combination with code MI6 (Emissions class PROCONVE L6), the emission levels are met with the aid of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system, selective catalytic reduction (SCR), and by adding AdBlue®.

The exhaust system of the OM 651 with code MS3 (Engine version EURO 3) gets by without oxidation catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters (DPF). The common rail diesel injection system operates with a system pressure of 1,800 bar. The injection pressure within the rail is achieved through a regulated high-pressure pump. A fuel filter with water separator (with code KL5 (Fuel filter with water separator)) is always added automatically.

Fuel and AdBlue® tanks

Fuel tanks with the following capacities are installed:

The AdBlue® tank, including filler pipe with blue fuel filler cap, is located on the right of the engine compartment in the direction of travel and is filled completely ex works. The maximum AdBlue® filling capacity is 22 liters. The fill level can be retrieved via the instrument cluster.
