Dimension (a) is measured from the cut edges of the outer paneling of the A-pillars toward the roof.
Scribe separation line (area A) depending on the degree of damage.
- Separate A-pillar inner section (1) at the separation point (area A).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Expose spot welds on A-pillar inner section (1) (areas B, C, D, E1 , and E2 ).
- Mill off spot welds on A-pillar inner section (1) (areas B, C, D, E1, and E2).
Mill off spot welds through 2 panel thicknesses (areas D and E2 ).

Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas and around holes (figure C).
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

- Remove shavings and milling chips.
- Zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges.
