The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be similarly performed on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.
- Remove screw/bolts (3).
Screws (3) are accessible from vehicle interior.
- Scribe separation lines on A-pillar outer paneling (1) (areas A and B).
Dimension (a) must in no case be exceeded.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Mark separating lines (areas A and B) according to the degree of damage.
Observe dimensions (A, B).
- Cut A-pillar outer paneling (1) at separating points (areas A and B).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Expose spot welds on A-pillar outer paneling (1) (areas C1 , C2 , C3 , C4 , D1 , D2 , D3 , D4 , D5 , E1 , E2 and E3 ).
- Cut off spot welds on A-pillar outer paneling (1) (areas C1
, C2
, C3
, C4
, D1
, D2

, E1
, E2
and E3
).
Cut off spot welds through 2 panel thicknesses (areas C2, C4, D2, D4 and E2).
- Expose spot welds on upper front longitudinal member (2) (areas F and G).
- Cut off spot welds on upper front longitudinal member (2) (areas F and G).
- Bend up sheet metal lugs (arrows) of upper front longitudinal member (2).
- Remove damaged A-pillar outer paneling (1) with A-pillar reinforcement.
- Grind cross-hatched areas down to bare metal around holes.
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas and around hole.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges.
