To receive a representative value in the hardness test, the hardness test has to be conducted at least 3x at the measuring point. The hardness tester has to be moved by a few millimeters for each hardness test. A suitable rebound hardness tester (Sklerograf) is to be used. The rebound hardness tester can be used to perform the hardness test without damaging the hardened component. Note down the read off values. A mean value is to then be calculated for each measuring point. The calculated value can then be used for the tables shown below.

Depending on the type of rebound hardness tester used, a separate conversion table is also provided that then has to be used in preference.

Conversion of the hardness values into internationally standardized statistical units Vickers, Brinell and Rockwell is unsafe, because the hardness value may be influenced by the deformation speed, suspension (natural frequency and hardening, e.g. through polishing). The hardness value can still serve as a reference value.
