Definition of safety-relevant components: 

Safety-relevant are components or systems whose faultiness or failure could lead to an immediate danger to the life and limb of road users.

Safety-relevant components can affect the operational safety of the vehicle.

Possible criteria for safety functions: 

• Occupant protection in the event of an accident
• Avoidance of momentary loss of road vision
• Avoidance of loss of directability
• Avoidance of loss or partial failure of the braking function
• Avoidance of failure of the driving function
• Avoidance of uncontrolled drive
• Avoidance of a sudden failure of the driving force
• Avoidance of leaks of operating materials / fire hazard
• Avoidance of loose loads / trailers / components
• Avoiding injuries when operating and otherwise using the vehicle

On the basis of these criteria and other aspects to be assessed, it is the responsibility of the development department to determine whether the system, parts or components are to be classified as potentially security-relevant and, if applicable, are also considered security-relevant in VeDoc. If this is the case, the jerk documentation must be carried out using the possible criteria in VeDoc.

For safety-relevant components, special requirements apply with regard to back documentation requirements when renewing as part of a repair.
