Tightening sequence

Interchange wheel-and-tire assemblies (vehicles without mixed tires)

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

  Preparatory activity     
1 Lift vehicle with lifting platform.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR00.60-P-1006A
REMOVING Remove     
2 Remove hub caps. Vehicle with hubcaps.  
3 Unscrew wheel bolts and remove wheel and tire assemblies using wheel lift dolly. NOTES
Remove wheel and tire assemblies using wheel lift dolly only.
The brake disks and complete wheels can otherwise be damaged.
 
INSPECT Check     
4 Check tires for damage and condition.   AP40.10-P-4051EW 
    If problems occur,

Rectify problem.
 
    IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.  
5.1 Check manufacturing date of tires on front and rear axle. Model 222 with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)
Countries with temperate climate.
If the manufacturing date is more than 6 years ago or if the mileage is higher than 15, 000 km in countries with a temperate climate, if the load per tire does not exceed max. half the load capacity per axle or max. 100% of the load index of the tire,

for safety reasons, replace the tire.
 
REFER TO BASIC KNOWLEDGE   Model 222 (except 222.077/177/178/179/187/188) with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special
protection version)

5.2 Check manufacturing date of tires on front and rear axle. Model 222 with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)
Countries with hot climate.
If the manufacturing date is more than 6 years ago or the mileage is higher than 10, 000 km in countries with a hot climate, if the load per tire does not exceed max. half the load capacity per axle or max. 100% of the load index on the tire,

for safety reasons, replace the tire.
 
REFER TO BASIC KNOWLEDGE   Model 222 (except 222.077/177/178/179/187/188) with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version) GF40.10-P-1008YE
    IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.  
INSTALLING Install     
6 Clean and check components of wheel threaded connections, and protect against corrosion.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR40.10-P-1100-02A
    NOTES
Before mounting a wheel-and-tire assembly conduct all  the operation steps listed in the linked description carefully.
The complete wheel can otherwise work its way loose from the vehicle.
 
    Paste, hot lubrication 1 kg, DBL 6879.20 *BR00.45-Z-1005-06A 
7 Swap over wheel and tire assemblies on front and rear axle. On vehicles without mixed tires.
NOTES
Note running direction of wheel-and-tire assemblies.
Otherwise, handling characteristics and handling comfort may be impaired and tire wear increased.
IMPORTANT Change wheel and tire assemblies if necessary, subject to separate repair order.
 
8 Mount wheel and tire assemblies using wheel lift dolly, and tighten wheel bolts. NOTES
Mount wheel and tire assemblies using wheel lift dolly only.
The brake disks and complete wheels can otherwise be damaged.
NOTES
Note tightening sequence (1 to 5) and tightening torque stages 1 to 3. Otherwise, the complete wheel may be damaged or work its way loose from the vehicle.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Wheel bolt *BA40.10-P-1001-01P 
9 Lower vehicle with vehicle lift.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR00.60-P-1006A
10 Correct tire pressure of tires on front and rear axle.   AP40.15-P-4061A 
    If an unusual tire pressure loss occurs,

determine cause and correct.
 
    IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.  
11 Install hub caps. Vehicle with hubcaps.
NOTES
Check hubcaps are correctly positioned relative to valve and that it is securely seated. Otherwise the valve will be damaged or the hubcaps will be lost.
 
12.1 Activate tire pressure monitoring system. Model 217 with code 475 (Tire pressure monitor (TPM)) Model 222 with code 475 (Tire pressure monitor (TPM)) Only for wheel-and-tire assembly change, a tire replacement or a change in tire pressure.

12.2 Activate tire pressure loss warning. Model 217 except code 475 (Tire pressure monitor (TPM))
Model 222 except code 475 (Tire pressure monitor (TPM))
Only for wheel-and-tire assembly change, a tire replacement or a change in tire pressure.
