The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
- Expose MIG solder seams on inner rear wheel well (1) and cut (area A).
- Expose spot welds on inner rear wheel well (1) and cut out (areas B and C).
Cut out spot welds through two panel thicknesses (areas C).
- Expose spot welds on inner rear wheel well (1) and drill with Ø 6.5 mm bit (area D).
- Expose MIG solder seams on inner rear wheel well (1) and cut (areas E).
- Expose spot welds on inner rear wheel well (1) and cut out (areas F and G).
Cut out spot welds through two panel thicknesses (areas G).
- Expose self-piercing riveting on inner rear wheel well (1) and drill with Ø 6 mm bit (areas H and I).
The self-piercing rivets can also be separated with a riveter for self-piercing and flow-form rivets (area H).
- Heat inner rear wheel well (1) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded.
- Remove inner rear wheel well (1).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in the cross-hatched inner C-pillar sidewall.
Grind mating surfaces on inside down to bare metal (area J).
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas K).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
