DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove cover over brake fluid reservoir. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install cover only after checking brake fluid level.  
2 Clean area around cap of brake fluid reservoir. Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
3 Remove cap of brake fluid reservoir and suction off some brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the brake fluid reservoir overflowing when the brake piston is pushed back.  
4 Remove front wheel and tire assemblies. Model 217.377/378/379

5 Check brake linings (2) for wear and condition.

6.1 Check condition of brake disks (1). Model 217.377/378/379

If there is a problem,

replace brake disks (1).

6.2 Check condition of brake disks (1). Model 231.474/479

If there is a problem,

replace corresponding brake disk (1).

7 Release and disconnect right front brake lining wear sensor electrical connector (S10/2x1). Only when removing brake linings (2) on right side.  
8 Press back brake pistons with pusher tool. IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL Attach pusher tool to the elevations (A) of the brake linings (2). Secure remaining brake pistons to prevent them slipping out.

Replace brake caliper (3).

9 Remove screws (4) then remove brake caliper support (5) together with brake caliper (3). NOTES
Do not unscrew screws (9) completely. Do not separate brake caliper (3) and brake caliper support (5).
Otherwise an optimum alignment of the brake caliper (3) to the brake disk (1) can no longer be guaranteed, which results in higher wear and an incorrect contact pattern.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screws (4).

10 Remove brake caliper (3) and secure to vehicle free of tension. NOTES
Do not crush, kink or stretch brake hoses (6) and brake lines.
This leads to damage to the brake hoses (6) and brake lines, and it can impair their function.

with code B07 (AMG - ceramic brake system) The brake line pieces (99) of the brake hoses (6) must not be bent.
Replace the affected brake hoses (6) with damaged brake line pieces (99) immediately.
IMPORTANT Do not damage paint of brake caliper (3).
If brake line piece (99) is damaged,

replace affected brake hose (6).

11 Remove brake linings (2) from brake caliper (3). INSTALLATION NOTES
Do not apply brake pastes or other lubricants to brake linings (2) and brake caliper (3).
Malfunctions may occur otherwise.
IMPORTANT Do not release or pull out the studs (7), push brake linings (2) against force of retaining springs (8) of the studs (7).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only sets of brake linings (2) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
 
INSPECT Check     
12 Check brake caliper (3) and dust boots for leak tightness. If there is a problem,

13 Check retaining springs (8). If there is a problem,

Replace retaining springs (8).
 
CLEAN Clean     
14 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (2) on brake caliper (3). NOTES
Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects.
Otherwise, the brake caliper (3) or the dust boot on the brake piston may be damaged.
Assembly cleaner
*BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
15 Pull right front brake lining wear sensor (S10/2) out of backing plate of brake lining (2). Only when removing brake linings (2) on right side.  
16 Install in the reverse order.    
  Concluding tasks     
17 Press brake pedal several times until brake linings (2) lie up against brake disks (1). IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
18 Check/correct brake fluid level in brake fluid reservoir.

DANGER Risk of death  caused by limbs being caught or crushed by rotating parts when performing tests on the brake test stand Never leave the vehicle unattended on the rollers except in an emergency. Ensure that no one is under the vehicle or near rotating parts during testing. In case of emergency, use the EMERGENCY OFF switch to shut down test stand. AS42.00-Z-0001-01A
19 Perform brake test on test stand.
