Remove A-Pillar And B-Pillars Completely With Longitudinal Member - Ar63.20-P-1120-01LF

Model 222 

except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version) 

IMPORTANT The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.

  1. Model 222.0/1

    except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version) Mark separating points on paneling (1) and cut (areas A and B).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANT Mark separating point along Y-marking (area BA) If the connection point is to be offset in area B provide overlapping of approx. 10 mm.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    a = approx. 150 mm

  2. Model 222.0/1

    except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version) Separate adhesive bead between paneling (1) and outer rear wheel well (area C)

    IMPORTANT Paneling (1) is glued to outer rear wheel well.

  3. Model 222.9

    except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version) Mark separating points on paneling (1) and cut (areas R1 , R2 and R3 ).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANT Mark separating point along Y-marking (area R3 ).

    If connection in area R3 is to be crimped provide overlap of approx. 10 mm.

    r1 = approx 260 mm

    r2 = approx. 130 mm

  4. Expose spot welds on paneling (1) and cut (areas D1 , D2 and D3 ).

    IMPORTANT Cut out spot welds through two panel thicknesses (areas D2 ).

  5. Expose spot welds on paneling (1) and cut (areas E1 , E2 and E3 ).

    IMPORTANT Cut out spot welds through two panel thicknesses (areas E2 ).

  6. Heat paneling (1) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded.

  9. Mark separating point on A-pillar and B-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (area F).

    NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANT Cut is required to expose spot welds behind (area F 1).

  10. Expose spot welds on A-pillar and B-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (areas F1, F2 and F3 ).

    IMPORTANT Cut out spot welds through two panel thicknesses (areas F2 ).

  11. Expose spot welds on A-pillar and B-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (areas G).
  12. Expose MIG solder seam on A-pillar and B-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (area H).

  14. Expose weld seams on A-pillar and B-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (area K).
  15. Expose spot welds on A-pillar and B-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (areas L).

  21. Expose spot welds on A-pillar inner panel (3.1) and cut (areas N1 and N2 ).

    IMPORTANT Cut out spot welds through two panel thicknesses (areas N2 ).

  22. Expose spot welds on roof frame inner panel (3.2) and cut (areas O and O2 ).

    IMPORTANT Separate spot welds on roof frame inner panel (3.2) from bottom (area O2 ).

  23. Expose self-piercing riveting on roof frame inner panel (3.2) and drill with Ø 6 mm bit (areas 03).

    IMPORTANT The self-piercing rivets can also be separated with a riveter for self-piercing and flow-form rivets.

  24. Support front and center roof carrier.
  25. Heat A-pillar inner panel (3.1) and roof frame inner panel (3.2) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded.

  26. Remove A-pillar inner panel (3.1), roof frame inner panel (3.2) and B-pillar inner panel (3.3).

  27. Remove remaining adhesive material in area of outer rear wheel well (area Q).

    IMPORTANT The height of the remaining adhesive material should not exceed 2 mm. Remove loose adhesive material.

  28. Repair bare parts with primer stick (area Q).
  29. Sand bonding surfaces on structural foam part with fine-grit abrasive paper (area R).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  30. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in the cross-hatched inner C-pillar sidewall.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  31. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
  32. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas P1 and P2 ).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
