General
When driving, tractive, lateral, brake and centrifugal forces as well as forces generated by road bumps, impact on the vehicle. These differing forces act on the longitudinal, transverse and vertical axes of the vehicle, whereby various vibrations are then generated. The effects of such vibrations on the vehicle are, e.g. acceleration of the vehicle body or deviations from tire uniformity. Vibrations are influenced by the interaction of the suspension and dampening. The objective of the suspension and dampening here is to secure ride comfort, vehicle dynamics and acoustic decoupling. To achieve these objectives, the vehicle uses adapted passive suspension and damper elements or active vibration-influencing suspension and damper elements.
Passive suspension and dampening
Passive suspension and dampening is realized through a combination of spring elements and shock absorbers.
Active suspension and dampening
Active suspension and dampening are based, for example, on the interaction of the air suspension with an ADS or an electrohydraulic suspension that can be adapted to, among other things, the given road surface condition and driving style. These systems are explained in detail in separate function descriptions.
