Remove A-Pillar Together With Side Longitudinal Member - Ar63.20-P-1150-01GQ

Model 166, 292

IMPORTANT The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.

  1. Scribe separating points on A-pillar outer paneling (1) (areas A1 and A2 ).

IMPORTANT Separating point (area A1 ) is the bottom edge on the upper outer longitudinal member (arrow). Measure separating point (area A2 ) from Y-marking (arrow).

    IMPORTANTRemoval  : a = approx. 150 mm

  2. Cut A-pillar outer paneling (1) at separating points (areas A1 and A2 ).

NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

  3. Expose spot welds on A-pillar paneling (1) and cut out (areas B1 and B2 ).
  4. Remove damaged A-pillar outer paneling (1).

  5. Scribe separating point on A-pillar reinforcement (2) (areas C1 and C2 ).

IMPORTANT Measure separating point (area C1 ) from bottom edge of upper outer longitudinal member (arrow). Measure separating point (area C2 ) from side longitudinal member separating point (arrow).

    IMPORTANTRemoval  : b = approx. 150 mm c = approx. 90 mm

  6. Cut A-pillar reinforcement (2) at separating point (areas C1 and C2 ).

NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

  7. Expose spot welds on A-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut out (areas D1 , D2 and D3 ).
  8. Drill Ø 6.7 mm spot welds in A-pillar inner section (3) (area E).
  9. Heat A-pillar reinforcement (2) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched area is bonded.

  10. Remove damaged A-pillar reinforcement (2).

  11. Scribe separating point on A-pillar inner section (3) and cut (area D and G).

IMPORTANT Measure separating point (area G) from top edge of side longitudinal member to A-pillar inner section (3) (arrow). Measure separating point (area D) from Y-marking (arrow).

    IMPORTANTRemoval  : d = approx. 350 mm e = approx. 400 mm

  12. Scribe separating point on A-pillar inner section (3) and cut (areas D and G).

NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

  13. Expose spot welds on A-pillar inner section (3) and cut out (areas F1 , F2 , F3 and H).

  15. Scribe separating point on A-pillar inner section (3) (area J).

IMPORTANT Measure separating point (area J) from separating point on A-pillar (arrow).

    IMPORTANTRemoval  : f = approx. 30 mm

  16. Cut A-pillar inner section (3) at separating point (areas J).

NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

  17. Expose spot welds on A-pillar inner section (3) and cut out (areas I1 and I2 ).
  18. Remove remaining A-pillar inner section (3).
  19. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in the cross-hatched inner C-pillar sidewall.

IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  20. Remove shavings and drill chips.
  21. Coat insides of spot welding flanges with zinc dust paint.
