Remove/Install The Suspension Strut - AR32.25-P-1017GQ

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Open engine hood and raise to vertical position Model 166, 292

2 Lift vehicle on vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-1000GZ
3 Empty AIRmatic using diagnostic system Model 166, 292 with code 489 (AIRMATIC)  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   NOTES Empty and fill the AIRmatic as per the specifications; the complete wheels must not be touching the ground.
The air springs can otherwise be damaged and fail later.

4 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m)    
5 Remove cover over corresponding suspension strut tower    
6 Remove air duct segment (1) When removing the right suspension strut (2).  
7 Remove pressure line (3) and seal connections with suitable stop plugs Model 166, 292 with code 489 (AIRMATIC)
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Air suspension pressure line to front air suspension

8 Unscrew nuts (2m) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, shock absorber on front end *BA32.25-P-1001-01O 
9 Secure suspension strut (2) using suitable means to prevent it from falling    
10 Remove washer (2s) Model 166, 292 with code 430 (On & off-road package)  
11 Remove front wheel and tire assembly Model 292 AR40.10-P-1100GQC
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 166 AP40.10-P-4050EW
12 Remove front section of fender liner in front fender Model 166, 292 with code 489 (AIRMATIC) AR88.10-P-1310GQ
13 Detach electrical subharness (4a) from all holders at longitudinal member, suspension strut (2) and steering knuckle (5) Model 166, 292 with code 489 (AIRMATIC)
INSTALLATION NOTES Check routing is correct, free of tension and chafing.
Otherwise damage can occur.
 
14 Detach, release and disconnect electrical connector of electrical subharness (4a) from holder Model 166, 292 with code 489 (AIRMATIC)  
15 Detach electrical subharnesses (4b, 4c) from all holders at longitudinal member, suspension strut (2) and steering knuckle (5) INSTALLATION NOTES Check routing is correct, free of tension and chafing.
Otherwise damage can occur.
IMPORTANT Electrical subharness (4b) on right side of vehicle only.
 
16 Remove bracket (6)    
17 Detach brake hose (7) from holder (7h) Notes on installing brake hoses   AH42.10-P-9406-01GZ
18 Remove torsion bar linkage (8) at torsion bar (9) NOTES Remove torsion bar linkage (8) carefully. Torsion bar (9) is under tension.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, link rod to torsion bar

19 Remove tie rod (10) at steering knuckle (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, tie rod to steering knuckle *BA46.40-P-1002-01K 
20 Support lower transverse control arm (11)    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
21 Remove steering knuckle (5) at upper transverse control arm (12) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, upper ball joint out of upper transverse control arm to steering knuckle *BA33.20-P-1001-01R 
22 Remove suspension strut (2) at lower transverse control arm (11) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten threaded connection of suspension components when in ready-to-drive condition.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, shock absorber to wishbone

23 Unscrew collar nut of front axle shaft to wheel hub TORQUE SPECIFICATION Collar nut, front axle shaft to front axle shaft flange *BA33.30-P-1001-02I 
24 Push front axle shaft out of wheel hub SPECIAL TOOL Extraction and insertion tool Fig 1
25 Pry and remove front axle shaft from front axle differential NOTES Do not damage the boots and protective ring of the front axle shaft or the radial shaft sealing ring in the front axle transmission.
Otherwise there may be consequential damage to the front axle shaft or transmission.
IMPORTANT Helper required.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining ring.
 
26 Push lower control arm (11) downwards and remove suspension strut (2) NOTES Do not damage subharnesses (4a, 4b, 4c) or boots for front axle shaft or suspension strut (2). Otherwise, the function is not assured.
IMPORTANT Helper required.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check for correct installation position of suspension strut (2).
 
27 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
28 Check pressure line (3) and pressure line connections for damage Model 166, 292 with code 489 (AIRMATIC)
In the case of complaints.

Repair AIRmatic pressure line connection.
