NOTES The resistance/insulation resistance measurement should only be performed after the vehicle has been de-energized.

Otherwise, the test results may be falsified.

NOTES The resistance/insulation resistance measurement on the high-voltage component must never be performed between HV+ (positive) and HV-(negative).

The high-voltage component can otherwise be damaged.

IMPORTANT A resistance/insulation resistance tester is used for the measurement.

NOTES Carefully connect the probes of the resistance/insulation resistance tester to the high-voltage connections.

Otherwise the high-voltage connections may be damaged.

  1. Check that testing tools are functioning properly in accordance with specifications from manufacturer.
    G12079400
  2. Perform visual inspection to determine whether protective earth conductor line (2) is connected to the high-voltage battery charger (1).
  3. Check that protective earth conductor line (2) is seated securely at TORQUE SPECIFICATION threaded connection on high-voltage battery charger (1).
  4. Perform visual inspection to determine whether high-voltage battery charger potential equalization line (4) is connected to ground point (5) and to high-voltage battery charger attachment point (3).
  5. Check that high-voltage battery charger potential equalization line (4) is seated securely at TORQUE SPECIFICATION ground point (5) and TORQUE SPECIFICATION high-voltage battery charger attachment point (3).
  6. Perform visual inspection to determine whether high-voltage battery charger potential equalization line (7) is connected to ground point (8) and high-voltage battery charger attachment point (6).
  7. Check that high-voltage battery charger potential equalization line (7) is seated securely at TORQUE SPECIFICATION ground point (8) and TORQUE SPECIFICATION high-voltage battery attachment point (6).

  8. Calibrate resistance/insulation resistance tester.
  9. Open socket flap in bumper.

IMPORTANT When the vehicle has been de-energized, the charger feed socket flap can only be opened by means of diagnosis.

  10. Open cover of charger feed-in socket (X58/23).
  11. Set resistance/insulation resistance tester to resistance testing mode.
  12. Perform resistance test using resistance/insulation resistance tester between protective earth conductor (PE) and ground point in luggage compartment.

If the ground fault circuit interrupter integrated in the charging cable or the ground fault circuit interrupter of the external power supply has been triggered.

    IMPORTANT Specified value < 1 Ω (+0.9).

  13. Perform insulation resistance test using resistance/insulation resistance tester between phase L1 (L1) and protective earth conductor (PE).

If the ground fault circuit interrupter integrated in the charging cable or the ground fault circuit interrupter of the external power supply has been triggered.

IMPORTANT To do so, set resistance/insulation resistance tester to 500 V.

IMPORTANT Specified value > 1 MΩ.

  14. Perform insulation resistance test using resistance/insulation resistance tester between neutral conductor (N) and protective earth conductor (PE).

If the ground fault circuit interrupter integrated in the charging cable or the ground fault circuit interrupter of the external power supply has been triggered.

IMPORTANT Specified value > 1 MΩ.
