Central Controller Unit, Basic Function - GF54.21-P-9895A
MODEL ALL (CAR)
Overview
This document contains the following information:
- Networking
- Tasks
- Controlling functions
Networking
The central controller unit is connected through the interior CAN (CAN B) to the vehicle network architecture. Various control units, sensors, switch groups and actuators can be connected to the central controller unit over LIN.
Task
The central controller unit combines the controls for various functions in a single housing. The individual controls assess sensor signals and CAN signals, control corresponding actuators and perform functions.
Depending on the equipment involved, the following controls can be located in the housing of the central controller unit:
- Climate control
- Seat heating (vehicles with seat heating)
- Seat ventilation (vehicles with seat climate control)
- Camera cover control for camera in rear end (vehicles with parking system)
- Liftgate control (vehicles with automatic liftgate)
- Ambient lighting (vehicles with ambient lighting)
- Anti-theft alarm system (ATA) (vehicles with anti-theft alarm system)
Controlling functions
The central controller unit processes the signals from different sensors and also evaluates the following:
- State of charge of on-board electrical system battery
- Fill levels for individual workshop equipment, e.g. brake fluid, washer fluid
- Operating requests e.g. for the interior and exterior lights, and the windshield washer system
The central controller unit actuates the following functions:
- Energy management
- Exterior lights
- Interior illumination
- Rear window heater
- Central locking system for trunk lid/liftgate and fuel filler flap
- Washer fluid hose and nozzle heating (vehicles with heated washer fluid system)
- Fanfare horns
To implement these functions, the central controller unit processes, for example, the following information:
- Status of circuit 15, circuit 50
- Vehicle speed
- Operating requests
- Engine management, drivetrain status information
- Brake system status information
- Reverse gear status information
- LED headlamp control status information (vehicles with LED headlamps)
- System requirements, e.g. to switch on the exterior lights or for visual feedback of central locking
- ECO start-stop function status information
- Driver assistance systems status information
- PRE-SAFE® status information (vehicles with PRE-SAFE® occupant protection system)
- Seat belt status information
- Information on a crash event
- State of charge of on-board electrical system battery
- Alternator management status information
- 48 V on-board electrical system status information (vehicles with 48 V on-board electrical system)
- High-voltage on-board electrical system status information (hybrid vehicles)
- Seat adjustment status information (vehicles with electric seat adjustment)
- GPS data (vehicles with navigation system)
Which particular information ultimately initiates corresponding system reactions is available in the relevant function descriptions and function schematics.
