Front Axle Shafts, Component Description - GF33.30-P-1001AVJ
Model 253 with transmission 725.096
Front axle transmission with oil pan and front axle shafts
Location
The right front axle shaft (2) is inserted in the front axle transmission (1) and the left front axle shaft (7) is inserted in the intermediate shaft (6).
Task
The front axle shafts (2, 7) transfer the drive torque from the front axle transmission (1) to the front drive gears.
Structure
The respective ball fixed joint (8) is not available as a replacement part. In the event of any defects, the respective front axle shaft is to be replaced.
At the wheel side, a ball fixed joint (8) (ball-and-nut joint) each with fully forged barrels are used. To provide a very small turning circle, the offset angle of the fixed joint is increased to 51.5°. A tripod sliding joint (10) each with fully forged barrels is used at the front axle transmission end and between the left front axle shaft (7) and the intermediate shaft (6). An intermediate shaft (6) that is guided through a cast-in pipe in the engine oil pan (4), serves as a connection between the left front axle shaft (7) and the front axle transmission (1). The intermediate shaft (6) is mounted on a bearing (5) sealed on both sides on the left side of the engine oil pan (4). Using a spline with snap ring fastener (9), the front axle shafts are plugged into the respective ball fixed joint (8) as well as the left front axle shaft (7) on the intermediate shaft (6) and the right front axle shaft (2) into the front axle differential (1).
