1. Place illuminated Mercedes star wiring harness (2) into driver footwell.

   Route black wiring harness (sw) of illuminated Mercedes star wiring harness (2) into engine compartment later.

2. Connect black, 18-pin coupling (2.3) on wiring harness for illuminated Mercedes star (2) to illuminated Mercedes star control unit (3) and lock.
3. Route brown line (br) from illuminated Mercedes star control unit (3) to left front footwell ground point (CAN) (W15/6) and fasten with cable tie.

   A maximum of 5 ground connections can be connected, otherwise the left front footwell ground point (W15/5) is to be used as an alternative.

4. Connect brown line (br) on illuminated Mercedes star wiring harness (2) to left front footwell ground point (CAN) (W15/6) or left front footwell ground point (W15/5)
5. Route twisted brown line (br) and brown/red line (br/rt) on illuminated Mercedes star wiring harness (2) from illuminated Mercedes star control unit (3) to electrical connector for left interior CAN potential distributor (CAN B) (X30/32) and fasten with cable tie.
6. Remove black 2-pin coupling from left interior CAN potential distributor electrical connector (CAN B) (X30/32).

   If no slot is free.

7. Remove twisted brown/red line (br/rt) and brown line from previously removed 2-pin coupling.

   If no slot is free.

   The tool required for this is available in the Basic wiring harness repair kit or the Supplemental wiring harness repair kit for passenger cars.

8. Install previously removed twisted brown/red line and brown line to black 2-pin coupling included in parts kit.

   If no slot is free.

   Contact cavity assignment: 

   Chamber 1 = brown/red line

   Contact cavity 2 = Brown line

9. Connect black 2-pin connector to Y tieout from twisted brown line (br) and brown/red line (br/rt) in 2-pin connector attached to wiring harness for illuminated Mercedes star (2).

   If no slot is free.

10. Connect black, 2-pin connector (2.5) on illuminated Mercedes star wiring harness (2) to free slot on electrical connector for left interior CAN potential distributor (CAN B) (X30/32).
11. Detach left fuse and relay module (K40/6).
12. Route red line (RD) to the left fuse and relay module (K40/6) and fix in place with cable ties.
13. Connect red line (rt) in slot 5 to left front fuse and relay module (K40/6).

    Slot 5 is labeled.

14. Fasten left fuse and relay module (K40/6).
15. Insert fuse with a fuse rating of 5 A into fuse holder (arrow).

16. Punch grommet (4) with suitable tool.
17. Route black wiring harness (BL) from driver footwell into engine compartment.

    Use a pull-through device.

18. Route black wiring harness (bl) from grommet (4) along hood release cable to installation location of illuminated Mercedes star and fasten with cable tie.
19. Seal grommet (4) with Butyl cord.
20. Install black wiring harness (BL) in 2-pin connector housing (2.4).

    Contact cavity assignment: 

    Chamber 1 = white line tieout (ws)

    Chamber 2 = black line tieout (sw)

    When installing illuminated Mercedes star connect black connector with black, 2-pin connector.

    Ensure that contact springs arrest securely.
