Remove/Install Rear Axle Shaft Flange And Angular Ball Bearing - AR35.20-P-0130MFA

MODIFICATION NOTES

12.07.2022 Press rear axle shaft out of rear axle shaft flange and angular-contact ball bearing (2). Operation step 5.

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  . Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove screw connecting rear axle shaft to wheel bearing. Model 118, 177, 243, 247 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
with code U55 (Multi-link axle)
IMPORTANT Installation: Replace bolt.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear axle shaft to wheel bearing
*BA35.30-P-1001-01P 
2 Remove left rear or right rear brake disk and secure left or right brake caliper unstressed on the vehicle. INSTALLATION NOTES
Do not twist the brake hose, and make sure that it is routed correctly.
Otherwise, there will be damage to the brake hose.
NOTES
Do not crush or kink brake hose, and do not subject it to tension.
Otherwise, there will be damage to the brake hose.
IMPORTANT Do not disconnect brake hose from brake caliper.

3 Remove rear axle rpm sensor. Model 177, 247
with code U54 (Compound-link axle)

4 Unscrew screws (1) from wheel carrier (4).    
Notice  Notes on threaded connections fastened using a tightening angle-based tightening process IMPORTANT Installation: Replace screw/bolts (1). AH00.00-P-0020-01A

5 Press rear axle shaft out of rear axle shaft flange and angular-contact ball bearing (2). Model 118, 177, 243, 247 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
SPECIAL TOOL Extraction and insertion tool

6 Remove rear axle shaft flange and angular-contact ball bearing (2).    
7 Check brake cover plate (3) for damage. If there is a problem,

replace brake cover plate (3).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 243
Bolt, brake cover plate to wheel carrier
*BA42.10-P-1004-06K 
8 Install in the reverse order.
